The event, with the police commissioner Agricola, in the Basilica of the district which is experiencing a new season, also thanks to the commitment of the police sports group, which manages a social gym open to the boys and women of the neighborhood
A concert show to celebrate the 70 years of the Police sports group, Fiamme oro, in the Rione Sanità where since 2018 they have been present with the boxing and judo gym first in the sacristy of the basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità and then from 2020 in a larger space large at the former Mendicicomio dei Cristallini. An extraordinary intuition of the then parish priest Don Antonio Loffredo, who wanted to put a gym in the church, calling the athletes of the Gold flames. A project that allowed hundreds of kids to practice boxing and judo for free, “distracting” them from other activities.
Hosting the event last night was Rosalia Porcaro who linked the various speeches and musical pieces performed by the boys sanitary assemblydirected by maestro Paolo Acunzo. The musicians, many of whom have become adults and teachers in their own right, performed pieces of classical symphonic music and soundtracks. There were various moments of thanks including the screening of videos with the Olympic champions of the gold flames and the history of this beautiful reality.
«Since last year we have also added climbing, a new discipline – explained the manager of Fiamme Oro, Luca Piscopo and extended the project also to the women of the neighborhood who take part in a course self-defense. All mothers, grandmothers, anyone who wants to do sporting activities with us can access the gyms. We are also open in the summer when schools are closed.”
Before the event there was a guided tour of the fabulous Nativity scene by the Scuotto Brothers, a monumental work that is now part of the treasures of the Basilica, then many testimonies for an evening full of emotion and legality. «There could not have been a better occasion and place to conclude the celebrations for the seventieth anniversary of the Fiamme oro – he commented the police commissioner of Naples, Maurizio Agricola -. The Fiamme Oro are like a double-sided medal, on one side the sporting successes, on the other the social commitment. The Sanità gym has taken many young people off the streets, giving them the opportunity to practice a sport and achieve positive results in life. Now with the same model we have arrived in Caivano where we manage the Delphinia center which has been redeveloped. All these realities must be exported because they have given excellent responses. Our motto is to always be there, first and foremost with prevention to show the friendly face of the police.” The evening ended on the notes of Era de’ Maggio.
To seal the emotion, the words of the parish priest of Sanità, Don Luigi Calemme: «For more than a decade now, our district has been experiencing a moment of authentic rebirth, I would say of resurrection, a process that still continues. The Fiamme Oro contributed significantly to the development of this beautiful story. Among the ten words with which Pope Francis defines the importance of sport, looking at healthcare, I find three particularly fitting: inclusion, redemption and team spirit.
I would like to thank two people for being important witnesses, the coordinator of the Fiamme Oro of the National Center of Naples, Luca Piscopo and Marco Badolati, proximity educator of our community. The proximity reminds us that we often arrive at the gym via the street where we find those fragilities that must be known in order to be loved and guided in the desire to make these little “champions” above all of life”.
