This December 3, World Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated, a date marked on the calendar that serves to add another speaker to the work that the Gran Canaria Basketball Club, through the Suma Project, carries out every day of the year. And, in the words of the director of the initiative, Javi Choren, «this is the day of the person, not of the disability, like yesterday and like tomorrow; “Every day is people’s day.”

In the interests of this normalization, of going beyond inclusion, a great party was held this Tuesday morning at the Teror Municipal Sports Center. Users of the Teror Occupational Center; from the Valleseco Occupational Center; students from the enclave and ordinary classrooms of the IES Teror; of the TSEAS; and the sports group in action of the Department of Seniors of Teror, were the main protagonists of a day full of joy, inclusion and much, much basketball.

After the dispute of several inclusive matches in which all the people, including the present authorities of the Teroro city council, participated, a dance was performed by the people of the Valleseco Occupational Center, and a dance by the people of the Teror Occupational Center.

Before finishing, students from IES Teror read a manifesto in which they emphasized promoting leadership in people with functional diversity, and continuing to generate opportunities in a society in which work must continue on normalization.

«For the club and the Suma Project it is an honor to be in Teror» commented Choren. “A year ago we were in the square, starting, where all the important movements begin,” he explained, and added his gratitude for the support that the initiative receives from the club, “and from the Teror City Council and Aguas de Teror.” ». He did not want to forget “the excellent professionals who work in the centers” or his “work team, without whom nothing would be possible.”

The Gran Canaria Basketball Club, under the umbrella of its social project “Compromiso Granca”, has dedicated itself this week to World Disability Day. Along these lines, the club has announced that it will pay tribute this coming Sunday, before the match against Río Breogán, to Valva, the first player of the Suma Project in 2019 and who must now retire. Additionally, during the break from the clash, the Ocean Move dance group will be accompanied by the boys and girls of Proyecto Suma to put the show on the track.
