Remembering Ted Walton: A Life of Dedication and Laughter
theadore “Ted” Murray Walton,a beloved husband,father,grandfather,and friend,passed away peacefully on December 19,2024,at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg,Ontario. Born on July 4, 1950, Ted’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, his passion for baseball, and his infectious sense of humor.
Ted’s love for baseball extended beyond playing; he found immense joy in coaching his sons, Adam and Jason, and even lending his expertise to his nephews’ teams. Sunday mornings were reserved for friendly games with his fellow legion members, a testament to his strong community ties. His involvement with Branch 178 in Bowmanville, Ontario, was a source of pride, especially his role in organizing button sellers for the annual Santa Claus Parade.
Beyond the baseball diamond, Ted cherished spending time with Adam and Jason’s friends, who affectionately called him “TEDDER.” He was known for his captivating stories and ability to bring laughter to any gathering. Ted lived by a simple yet powerful motto: “Work Hard, Play smart, and Always Be a Team.” This ideology resonated throughout his life, inspiring those around him.
Ted’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Pearce), his sons Adam (Kristy) and Jason (Jessica), and his four adored grandchildren: Wyatt, Colby, Kendal, and Avery. He is also survived by his father, Murray Walton, his dear sister Susan, and brothers Robin (Reta) and Jay (Sharon). Ted’s warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by his extended family, including numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside celebration of Ted’s life will be held at a later date at Bond Head Cemetery in Newcastle, Ontario. In lieu of flowers,the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ted’s memory.
Ted’s legacy of love,laughter,and dedication will continue to inspire generations to come. His spirit will forever be a source of comfort and strength for those who knew and loved him.

Tony La Russa: Invaluable. When I was coming through the ranks, I was blessed to have coaches who instilled those very values. Baseball, at its heart, is a team sport. Learning to work together, support each other, and understand the importance of each player’s role – those are lessons that extend far beyond the baseball field. and Ted’s emphasis on making sure the kids had fun while learning – that’s key. You can’t sustain dedication and passion if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing.

Tony La Russa: That motto is a blueprint for success not just in sports, but in life. It speaks to discipline, intelligence, and the understanding that you’re part of something bigger than yourself. When you approach challenges with that mindset, you’re more likely to persevere through tough times and celebrate victories together.
