LIVORNO It is the prestigious hall of the city council that hosts the annual day of presentation of CONI’s sporting merits, which celebrates the important results obtained by athletes, managers and technicians active in the province of Livorno.

The host is the mayor Luca Salvetti, together with the provincial delegate of the Coni, Gianni Giannone, Diego Saccà, member of the Coni council, Pietro Caruso, president of the municipal council and Giulia Quintavalle, gold medal in Judo at the Tokyo Olympics and councilor National Coni. «We are closing an Olympic year and we are doing it with excellent feedback and results – says Salvetti -. As a province, we managed to exceed 100 Olympic medals won, a unique case in Italy. Thanks to the athletes who prepare with sacrifice, thanks to the serious and organized clubs capable of structuring an important basic activity; and thanks to serious work on the structures and on this the administrations, in particular ours, have been called to play a fundamental role”.

The journalist Giulia Bellaveglia, who moderates the event, then gives the floor to Giannone. «This is the last year of my Coni mandate and it is right to summarize the last four years of work: we have had dramatic situations, such as Covid, which represented a tragedy from many points of view. Great difficulties for companies and young people who have left the business. Then the sport reform, presented precisely at the moment of the crisis, incorrectly and at the wrong time. But there were also good things: magnificent stories, exceptional results, extraordinary events organized in Livorno. The greatest satisfactions? Having seen many athletes who have integrated through sport: Andy Diaz and Genna Toko are two clear examples. And the social aspect, the integration of people with disabilities. We have achieved exceptional results.”

Then the announcement that triggers applause. «On 12 December 2025 the Olympic torch for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will pass through Livorno: an important recognition that they have awarded us at a national level».
