Three firefighters hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning in the Cardona park

BarcelonaThree members of the Generalitat Fire Department were hospitalized in Barcelona after suffering poisoning in the Cardona park, where they were on duty, as ARA has learned and the Fire Department officially confirms. The events took place this Wednesday afternoon inside the Fire Department headquarters in this municipality of Bages and the officers have already spent the night at home after being discharged in the morning. According to park sources and also body officials, it all came from a boiler installation problem, which was not done correctly, and a few hours later they detected a high concentration inside the park of carbon monoxide .

According to the same sources, there has been no boiler in this park for months and, therefore, the firefighters (who live there when they are on duty) have been without heating and hot water all this time. After insisting and facing the arrival of the cold, last week they brought a new boiler and this Monday the installation by an external company began, which finished on Tuesday. The following afternoon, this Wednesday, two firefighters began to have headaches, according to park sources. They quickly removed the gas detector that they always have in the trucks and detected an excessive concentration of carbon monoxide, a gas that appears when combustions are not done properly.

The firefighters called an ambulance, which took the three affected officers to a hospital in Barcelona. The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, visited the injured firefighters in the hospital, as confirmed by Interior sources. They were finally discharged this morning. Sources from the body report that, if everything had happened at night, the result could have been tragic.
