Towards a revolution in basketball? The NBA is considering creating its own European league

The NBA could soon set up shop in Europe. According to RMC, this project, which seemed to be just a rumor, is now taking on the appearance of a concrete plan.

The NBA could finally realize a long-held dream: creating its league in Europe. The idea is simple: create the European NBA, with local franchises inspired by the American model. An initiative which demonstrates the desire of the famous basketball league to establish itself even more internationally.

This project is part of an ambitious globalization strategy. A true monument of sport in the USA, the NBA would like to attract new European fans and develop a local economy around basketball. A bold bet, but one that could transform the sporting landscape of the continent. The arrival of a European NBA would nevertheless raise challenges. The management of calendars, coexistence with the Euroleague and the costs linked to the creation of new franchises are among the questions to be resolved.

But for the NBA, these obstacles seem surmountable given the potential of such a market. In Le Parisien, David Kahn, the president of Paris Basketball and former head of franchises in the American championship, confirmed that discussions had already been launched. Relevo, for his part, even mentions a possible first season of the European NBA in 2026.
