Hien: Thank you! It was an incredible feeling to be competing at such a high level against a skilled opponent like Nam. Honestly, I was entirely focused on my game. I’ve been training intensely, working on my power adn precision, and I felt confident in my ability.
Coming from a professional tennis background, what drew you to pickleball, and what aspects of the sport resonate most with you?
Hien: Tennis will always hold a special place in my heart, but I was immediately captivated by the fast-paced, strategic nature of pickleball. The smaller court demands quick reflexes and tactical thinking. Plus, the social aspect is fantastic – it’s a sport that’s truly inclusive and enjoyable for all skill levels.
You made the transition look seamless, quickly establishing yourself as a top contender. was there a particular moment or challenge during your switch that stands out?
Hien: Every sport has its nuances. Adapting to the different paddle size, the underhand serve, and the faster rallies did take some time. the biggest challenge, though, was unlearning certain ingrained tennis habits, like the overhead smash. it took conscious effort to adjust my technique.
Many consider your performance against Nam a sign of a generational shift in vietnamese pickleball. How do you view the current landscape of the sport in Vietnam?
Hien: Vietnamese pickleball is blossoming! We’re seeing a surge of talented players like Quang duong making waves internationally. Tournaments like the Quang Ngai Open are attracting top-tier competition, and the sport’s popularity is skyrocketing. The future is bright for Vietnam on the pickleball court.
Looking ahead, what are your personal goals and aspirations for your pickleball career? Any specific tournaments or rivals you have your sights set on?
Hien: I’m incredibly driven to represent Vietnam on the global stage and compete against the best in the world. The US Open Pickleball Championships are definately a dream.
As for rivals, I always admire Quang Duong’s skill and determination. He’s a fierce competitor, and a match against him would be an exhilarating challenge.
