Pachuca Women’s Preseason Dominance: A Promise for Clausura 2025?
Welcome back, soccer fans, to another enthralling edition of “Talking Tactics”! Today, we have the priviledge of welcoming former Mexican national team striker and Liga MX Femenil analyst, Monica Vergara, to dissect pachuca’s notable preseason victory over Monterrey. Monica, welcome to the show!
(Monica Vergara): Thank you for having me! It’s always a pleasure to analyze the growing women’s game in Mexico.

Let’s dive right in. Pachuca’s 4-1 win over Monterrey, their second preseason triumph, certainly sent a strong message. What stood out to you most about their performance?
(Monica Vergara): They looked incredibly sharp, both offensively and defensively. The 4-1 scoreline doesn’t fully capture Pachuca’s dominance. They controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and their attacking movement was fluid and incisive. Chinwendu Ihezuo was especially impressive, scoring two goals and constantly troubling the Monterrey defense.
Moderator:
Absolutely.Ihezuo’s form seems to be continuing from last season. Their coach, Óscar “el Rambo” Torres, appears to have instilled a very attacking mindset in the team. Do you think this is sustainable throughout a grueling Liga MX Femenil season?
(Monica Vergara):
While attacking football is exciting, maintaining this level of intensity throughout a very competitive league will be a challenge.Torres will have to find a balance between offense and defense, ensuring his team remains compact and disciplined even when pressing high.
Moderator: And speaking of challenges, Monterrey will be looking to bounce back from this defeat. They’re a strong team with Amalia Valverde at the helm. What do you think they need to do to bridge the gap with Pachuca?
(Monica vergara):
Monterrey obviously has the talent and experience to compete for the title. However, they need to improve their defensive solidity. Pachuca exploited gaps in their defense with ease, and Valverde needs to find a solution to that vulnerability. They also need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Excellent analysis, Monica. This Clausura 2025 is shaping up to be incredibly exciting, fuelled by performances like this. Pachuca undoubtedly sent a
warning shot to the rest of the league with this win. Do you think they have what it takes to go all the way?
(Monica Vergara):
Pachuca showed great promise, but it’s still early days.
The Clausura is a marathon, not a sprint. They need to maintain this consistency, weather potential injuries, and remain focused throughout the long season. But if they can keep this momentum going, Pachuca will definitely be in the mix for the title.

A fitting conclusion! Thank you so much for sharing your insights,Monica. Now, we’d love to hear your thoughts, soccer fans! Do you think Pachuca will be champions this Clausura?
