Nice success for the German young doubles Danial Marzuan/Mark Niemann (both SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil) and Shreya Hochscheid/Marie Sophie Stern (SC Union Lüdinghausen/Spvgg. Sterkrade-Nord): Both pairs achieved this in the individual competition at the 2024 U19 European Championships semi-final and won the bronze medal.
After Danial Marzuan/Mark Niemann Number six on the seeding list is a men’s doubles from Sweden (21:19, 21:15), a duo from Switzerland (21:12, 19:21, 21:19) and the second-place pairing from Poland (21:15 , 24:22), they had to admit defeat to the Danes Robert Nebel/Otto Reiler in the round of the best four men’s doubles (14:21, 19:21).
Also for Shreya Hochscheid/Marie Sophie Stern In Ibiza, a pairing from Denmark proved to be too strong: The women’s doubles of the German Badminton Association (DBV) clearly lost its semi-final game against Amanda Aarrebo Petersen/Maria Højlund Tommerup (seeded 8th) with 5:21, 6:21. On the way to the semi-finals, the unseeded Germans had a duo from Norway (21:6, 21:8), a women’s doubles from Slovakia (21:9, 21:19), the fifth-ranked pairing from Switzerland (21 :19, 21:12) and the number three seeded Ukrainians (21:11, 21:14).
In the previously held team competition, the DBV selection confidently won the group phase and thereby qualified for the knockout round beginning with the quarter-finals. The DBV team lost 3-1 to Poland at the start.
