RKC Waalwijk coach Henk Fraser explains why Mohamed Ihattaren gets a starting spot against Fortuna Sittard. The 22-year-old midfielder and attacker will kick off an Eredivisie match for the first time since February 2021, then for PSV.
Ihattaren is brought slowly by RKC. He makes his starting debut against Fortuna. “I understand it wasn’t expected,” Fraser said at ESPN. “It has to do with the circumstances. Silvester (van der Water, ed.) has been ill. That was one of the factors.” How long Ihattaren will play is up to him. “He’s one of those players who constantly looks at me and thinks he should play,” Fraser laughs.
“How long? He can decide that himself tonight,” Fraser continues, who emphasizes that he should not slow down Ihattaren. “No, believe me. We do everything in good consultation. Sometimes you have to slow people down and sometimes you have to push people. The cooperation between us is fine.”
Fortuna and RKC kick off at 8 p.m. The Waalwijkers can book their second Eredivisie victory in Sittard.
