US data from November 2024: College Football 25 becomes the best-selling sports video game ever – News Playstation 5, Xbox Series

Circana has released sales data for the month of November 2024 in the USA.

EA Sports’ college football game College Football 25 has become the best-selling sports video game in US history in terms of dollar sales. The game is also among the 50 best-selling games of all time by the same criterion, as well as being the best-selling game of the year in the United States. Price promotions have contributed to the success of the title, placing it in the Top Ten of the monthly rankings, surpassed only by Madden NFL 25 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The latter was cited as a key factor in last month’s year-on-year spending decline, which fell 7% to $5.8 billion. The month of November 2024 clashed with Modern Warfare 3’s launch month, while Black Ops 6 launched in October. However, this year’s Call of Duty is currently the second best-selling game of 2024.

The most important new release was Mario & Luigi: Brothership at no. 7 (although this figure does not include digital sales, as Nintendo does not share this data). The only other new releases in the Top 20 were Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake at no. 12 and EA’s My Sims: Cozy Bundle at no. 19.

In November 2024, video game sales fell 9% from the previous year, reaching $4.5 billion. Console content sales fell 29%. However, hardware sales remained stable at $927 million, primarily due to a 15% increase in PlayStation 5 sales, which offset Xbox’s 29% and Switch’s 3% decline. The new PS5 Pro console accounted for 19% of all units sold by Sony. Dollar sales of the PS5 Pro were 50% higher than those of the PS4 Pro, but unit sales were 12% lower. Overall, 2.4 million consoles were sold as of November 2024, a 4% increase from the previous year. However, hardware sales lagged the previous year, with a difference of 9.4 million units.
