Aaron,welcome to the show. Congratulations on making the leap to professional football in Europe with the New York Lions.
Aaron Banks: Thanks for having me. I’m truly excited for this next chapter in my football career.
Moderator: You’ve spent six years honing yoru skills in the competitive CAA conference, racking up some seriously impressive stats. 202 tackles, eight interceptions – three of which you returned for touchdowns – that’s a testament to your talent and dedication. What do you think were the key contributing factors to your success at Richmond?
Aaron Banks: Absolutely. Those six years with the Spiders were crucial. The coaching staff was phenomenal, always pushing us to improve and evolve. The competition within the CAA is fierce, so every game was a learning experience.
Moderator: You clearly excel at reading plays and disrupting the opponent’s passing game, averaging almost five pass deflections per season.
Aaron Banks: I take pride in my ability to anticipate the quarterback’s movements and be in the right place at the right time. It’s a combination of studying film, trust in my teammates, and a bit of natural instinct.
Moderator: it’s captivating how naturally things seem to come to you on the field. Initially, you had your sights set on the CFL, but decided to pursue an opportunity with the New York Lions. Was there a particular factor that swayed your decision?
Aaron Banks: Coach Tomlin’s offer was truly compelling. The opportunity to play for a renowned institution like the New York Lions, in a league gaining increasing recognition, was too good to refuse. It felt like the right step for my career and advancement.
Moderator: Switching gears a bit, you mentioned enjoying golf off the field. How crucial is it for athletes to have interests outside of their sport, and do you find it helps you stay grounded?
Aaron Banks: Absolutely. It’s about balance. Football demands so much mentally and physically.
Having hobbies like golf allows me to de-stress, clear my mind, and come back to the game refreshed.
Moderator: Wise words, Aaron. Speaking of focus, European football is known for its physicality and tactical approach. Having spent your college years in the USA, how do you anticipate adapting to this new style of play?
Aaron Banks:
I’ve been studying European football extensively, watching games and learning about the tactics employed.
I’m aware of the physical demands, but I believe my playing style – aggressive yet strategic – will translate well.
I’m eager to embrace the challenges and learn from experienced players in the league.
