Champion of the Community of Madrid and now also from Spain. Adrian Nieto (Valdemoro, 1998) is the best national male judoka under 66 kilos. The young man climbed to the first step of the podium of his weight in the Spanish Absolute Championship, held on Saturday, November 30 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, after beating all the competitors who crossed his path.
“Today I am very happy and proud of myself. Thanks to those who gave me that little push when I needed it,” declared the athlete from Valdemoro at the end of another perfect competition for him. The silver medal in his category went to Víctor García from Madrid and the two bronze medals went to Jaume Bernabeu from Valencia and Giovanni Suárez from the Canary Islands.
Nieto’s national gold joins the first place achieved two weeks ago in the regional event and the two European bronzes obtained in two of the first international events of the new Olympic cycle: the Sarajevo European Open and the one achieved in Malaga European Cup.
To the personal success of the young man from Valdemoro in the absolute category, the achievements of two other Valdemoro Judo athletes were added. Ricardo Navarro was proclaimed champion of less than 100 kilos in the competition reserved for athletes between 50 and 54 years old in the veteran category and Iratxe García was third in less than 57 kilos, sharing the stage with the Galician Paula Cima.
Iria Martín caresses the medals
The only representative of Judo Ciempozuelos on the national tatami, Iria Martín, finished her competition very close to hanging one of the medals weighing more than 78 kilos around her neck. The young woman, Madrid runner-up of her weight, placed fifth after losing to the Andalusian Zoe Soriano.
