(Paris) The duo leading the Vendée Globe, Charlie Dalin and Sébastien Simon, were still advancing with a comfortable gap on Wednesday morning on their pursuers, who were heading further north to avoid a violent depression in the Indian Ocean.
At 7 a.m., Dalin is ahead of Simon by 36 nautical miles. The two men faced a violent southern storm while continuing their eastward course, while their pursuers all chose a northeastern course.
Like the third man, Yoann Richomme, who is catching up, 279 miles from Dalin, the pursuers have made better progress in recent hours than the leading duo.
At the heart of this storm, waves exceeding seven meters were expected, with 35 knots of established wind (65 km/h) and gusts of more than 50 knots.
“Physically and morally, things are going well, I would like just a little more sleep, but at the moment the sea conditions mean that it is not easy to rest, it takes a lot,” explains Justine Mettraux, who made his return to the top 10.
