Under the command of coach Maximiliano Tamburini, Los Indios achieved one of the main objectives of the year: promoting to the Federal League in 2025. Even in the Repechage, the “Canario” had to battle against Sacachispas to close the series 2-0 and get a ticket to the third category of national basketball.
In a busy and intense year, the Borges street team knew how to have key virtues to advance. The fact is that injuries were a constant throughout 2024 and this hindered the normal development of the team, although they overcame it and finally obtained the well-deserved celebration, for all the work done by the players, coaching staff and management.
In this year that is almost over, Los Indios still has one more battle left. It will be next Friday, where the title of the local basketball Clausura Tournament will be defined with San Martín. It will be in the “Belgrano Bastion”, in a final –Game 3- that promises to be tremendous. In dialogue with La Deportiva of the La Verdad Group, Tamburini took stock of the year.
THE PREFEDERAL
“We are happy that we were promoted, in our opinion it was well deserved because of 14 games we won 10, showing one of the most efficient defenses in the area. We had two great teams up there like San Martín, who we were able to beat on their home field, and Colón. We couldn’t escape in the playoffs. In the middle of the tournament, 4 of our seniors were injured and the boys took a step forward, which I am very proud of. The 12 players had a leading role in this objective achieved. We do not stop training hard at any time and it speaks to the commitment of the players. Los Indios in 2023 could not be promoted sportingly and when I arrived in January 2024 we were with Juan Pablo Pontelli (president) waiting every day for the invitation email to arrive. It was one of the objectives that the leadership proposed to us when we arranged and we achieved it, to the joy of them and all the club’s supporters.”
PLAYOFF
“The playoffs for promotion are never easy and Sacachispas was no exception. Everyone was talking about the negative record they had, but absolutely no one had seen those defeats. He fought on an equal footing with all the teams, even the leading team Athens. With the coaching staff we watched 8 entire games and noticed a very good quintet, with goals but that had difficulty rotating because they used few players. So obviously we decided not to lose our imprint of constantly pressing because it was going to wear them out. We found a difficult court, which was full and uncomfortable. The rival coach proposed a square and one with Arrascaete, which opened space for our other players who were effective. We won it smoothly but always in a state of maximum concentration. In Junín, Sacachispas had a great first half, but we were betting on the long game. At some point they had to slow down and when they got tired we were at our best physically and mentally, blow by blow we won and we were able to close a series with clarity and forcefulness”
LOCAL TOURNAMENT
“The Local Tournament is always a goal for Los Indios. It is not easy to reach two consecutive finals with a team that suffered injuries and absences, ending up with a short squad. Everyone recognized Rivadavia as a very tough team, with experienced and quality players, and we were able to eliminate them in the Apertura 2-0. I remember that final having arrived decimated by injuries, internal situations and we were also super competitive. In this tournament, Argentino competed with its entire Development League squad, they have several matches against great teams and on all the fields in the country. We cut all their circuits and were able to eliminate them, leaving them with many fewer points than their average. Now, with the absence of Tucho (Bornic) we fight in the finals against a great team that has very quality players like San Martín. We were the only ones who beat them twice in their stadium and we have to stay focused for the third.”
THE CLUB
“The project is led by the president. I joined him, he trusted me along with my work team to lower a line in the entire club of habits, order and form of play. We are in permanent dialogue with all the club’s coaches to keep this work aligned. The U13s play an offensive triangle just like the Primera, we have the same pressure all over the field and the same rules. We work on individual technique in the same way with player number 12 of the U13s as with Arrascaete in terms of demands. Each one with their own objectives of course. In the morning we train with the elders, when they leave school the boys and girls from the different categories join in doing fundamentals with the club’s professional players and that makes me and the leaders happy when we see the field permanently occupied and with so much desire to learn. Afterwards the ball may or may not go in, but it reflects a super organized and hard-working club.”
FUTURE
“We haven’t closed the year yet, we still have to define the First and U21 finals. But with the classification to the Federal, surely these days we are going to meet with the leadership to see how we can strengthen ourselves, take stock of what we need to improve. Likewise, I have permanent dialogue with the commission, Martin Carabajal always goes to the morning training sessions, Marcelo Barile goes to the night training sessions, apart from always speaking with the president. They know my tastes and my demands on the players, I know the economic issue, which is complicated as in all clubs, and I know the effort they make. Last Federal we finished with a positive record, and we know that each competition is going to be more difficult. We have to have a lot of ingenuity. “I have a contract with the club until June 2025 and we hope to be able to maintain the entire work group, because we achieved a lot of chemistry in a very short time.”
THE NUMBERS OF THE INDIANS IN THE PREFEDERAL
