Bretten (red) There was a lot of action and great baseball games last Sunday at the “Im Grüner” sports center at the first edition of the Kangaroos Bretten Christmas Ball. The event began with the games for five to eight year olds, who impressed with a lot of effort and great performances. In the end, the Karlsruhe Cougars secured first place, followed by the Stuttgart Reds in second place. Nagold took third place, followed by Remchingen in fourth place and the Kangaroos in fifth place.
Santa Claus personally presented medals
A special highlight was the award ceremony, where Santa Claus personally presented the trophies and medals, which made the little baseball players’ eyes light up.
Bretten Kangaroos in third place
There were many exciting games at a high level for the eight to twelve year olds. The Karlsruhe Cougars, Stuttgart Reds, Darmstadt Whippets and the local Kangaroos qualified for the semi-finals in three groups with four teams each. There the Stuttgart Reds prevailed against the Kangaroos and the Karlsruhe Cougars against the Darmstadt Whippets.
After the Kangaroos had lost to Darmstadt in the preliminary round, they were able to secure victory by one run in a super close and exciting game and thus the much celebrated third place.
In the end, the Cougars from Karlsruhe won the high-class final with many spectacular moves and thus also secured the student title at the first Christmas Ball tournament. At the award ceremony that followed, the patron of the event, Bretten’s mayor Nico Morast, took the opportunity to congratulate all the players on their great achievements and to present them with the trophies and medals.
