A former tennis coach at Jeonbuk Sports Middle and High School who denied receiving bribes during the reporting process.
Even after the related reports were published, he forced to leave the Czech Republic and competed as the coach of the national under-14 men’s team.
However, after returning to Korea, it was reported that during an investigation by the Jeonbuk Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, he confessed that he had received illegal donations.
The person who gave the coach a large sum of money over a long period of time was Mr. A, a parent of this school.
It is known that the coach had a relationship with this parent and priest when he was learning tennis during his school days.
It was discovered that this parent collected approximately 2 million won, tens of thousands of won, from other parents each month and sent it to the coach.
It was a method of receiving designated donations for the student-athlete’s children.
Circumstances were also revealed that, for some reason, the account was passed through the Jeonbuk Tennis Association account.
The Jeonbuk Office of Education estimates that more than 50 million won has been exchanged in this way for about three years starting in 2021.
Accordingly, the coach and two parents were reported to the police on charges of violating the Anti-Graft Act.
If found guilty of receiving inappropriate bribes, the two could be fined hundreds of millions of dollars, equivalent to two to five times the amount of money exchanged.
The police plan to begin an investigation soon.
