지난해 유독 논란이 많았던 체육계가 새 수장들을 뽑습니다.
검경 수사를 받는 이기흥 대한체육회장을 비롯해 문체부가 중징계를 요구한 축구, 배드민턴협회장은 모두 연임 도전장을 냈는데요.
이런 가운데 정부가 체육단체장 징계의 실효성을 강화하는 법적 발판을 마련해 주목됩니다.

지난해 논란에 휩싸인 대한체육회와 축구협회, 배드민턴협회가 이번 달 새 수장을 뽑습니다.
축구협회가 오는 8일, 대한체육회와 배드민턴협회가 그 다음 주 차례로 선거를 치릅니다.
대한체육회 이기흥 회장은 부정채용, 금품수수, 입찰비리 등의 혐의로 검찰과 경찰의 수사를 받고 있고,
정몽규 축구협회장과 김택규 배드민턴협회장은 문체부가 각각 자격정지 이상 징계와 해임을 협회에 요구한 상태입니다.
두 협회가 문체부에 낸 이의신청이 모두 기각되는 등 여론은 악화했지만, 세 사람은 모두 연임에 도전합니다.
“아마 대한민국의 모든 권력기관이 다 체육회 조사에 나섰습니다. ‘해도 너무한다, 이거는… 여기서 물러서면 모든 것을 인정하게 되는구나'(라고 생각해 출마했습니다).”
“문체부를 잘 설득할 거고요. 미진한 것에 대해선 앞으로 개선해야 될 거라 생각이 되고…”
이런 가운데 정부는 체육단체장 징계를 사실상 강제할 수 있는 법적 근거를 마련했습니다.
국민체육진흥법 일부개정안이 국회 본회의를 통과한 건데,여기에는 정부가 체육단체장에 대한 징계뿐 아니라 권고,시정명령 등을 요구하고,보완과 재조치를 요구할 수 있는 조항이 신설됐습니다.
정당한 사유 없이 이행하지 않는 체육단체에는 최대 2년간 재정지원을 제한할 수 있다는 내용을 담아 징계 실효성을 강화한 겁니다.
수사나 징계 요구에도 별다른 조치 없이 선거가 진행되는 가운데,이들이 연임에 성공할 경우 문체부가 제동을 걸 수 있어 후속 조치를 둘러싼 혼란이 예상됩니다.
