Young Basketball Stars Converge for the 2025 Global Youth Basketball Super Cup
The global stage is set for aspiring young basketball players as the highly anticipated 2025 global Youth Basketball Super Cup returns to Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.From August 17th to 19th,over 600 athletes from Korea,the United States,Thailand,Mongolia,and beyond will compete across five age divisions: U11,U12,U13,U15,and U18.
This year’s Super Cup promises to be even bigger and better then its predecessors. Building on the success of the first two tournaments, which were lauded for their scale and impact on Korean youth basketball, the 2025 edition will feature a diverse range of teams, including renowned domestic squads like Bundang Samsung, Pyeongtaek Kim Hoon, Uijeongbu SK, Jeju Rink, Hanam Korea, and Ulsan Mobis.
“We are thrilled to welcome back the Super Cup to Hongcheon-gun,” said Shin Eun-seop, Chairman of the Hongcheon-gun Sports Council.”This tournament has already made a notable contribution to the development of youth basketball in Korea, and we are proud to play a role in its continued success.”
Adding to the excitement, the Super Cup coincides with the Hongcheon River Freezing Festival, offering participants a unique prospect to experience local culture and create lasting memories off the court.
“We’ve planned a variety of events and activities for the athletes, including a special dinner for our international guests,” shared a KXO official. “We want to ensure that this is a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.”
The 2025 Global Youth Basketball Super Cup kicks off at 9:00 AM on August 17th, with the opening ceremony taking place on August 18th at 9:00 AM.Basketball enthusiasts worldwide can catch all the action live on YouTube, with the main matches of the final tournament also being broadcast live on Naver on August 18th and 19th.

Coach Lee: It’s fantastic to be here. This tournament is a phenomenal chance for these young players. It broadens their perspectives, builds character, and fosters a global sense of community within the sport.

Coach Lee: We’ve seen a real surge in interest in youth basketball in Korea in recent years, and the Super Cup has been instrumental in that growth. This year, we have an incredibly strong lineup of domestic teams like Bundang Samsung and pyeongtaek Kim Hoon participating alongside international contenders. The competition will be fierce, but more importantly, it will be inspiring for young Korean players to witness firsthand the global talent pool and be challenged to up their game.

Coach Lee: One of the biggest challenges is ensuring access to quality coaching and training facilities for all young athletes, nonetheless of their background. We need to be proactive in identifying and nurturing talent, providing them with the resources they need to flourish. On the flip side, the growing popularity of basketball presents a huge opportunity to engage youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and instill valuable life lessons through teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
