Orthodox Look to Extend Lead as CFI Basketball Premier League Heats Up
Welcome back, basketball fans! it’s another thrilling week in the CFI Basketball premier League, adn we’re joined today by none other than Coach Yazan Abu Harb, who coached the amman Ittihad to victory in the 2021 season. Coach, thanks for joining us.
Yazan Abu Harb: It’s a pleasure to be here.
What an exciting week we have ahead of us, with some crucial matchups as teams battle for position. We’ve got two matches here in Al-Hussein Youth City, with Al-Jubaiha facing off against Achrafieh and, later, the Orthodox taking on Al-Jalil.
Yazan: Both games are going to be captivating for different reasons. Al-Jubaiha will be looking to climb the table, while Achrafieh will be eager to put a stop to their recent slump. I think the Orthodox-Al-Jalil clash will be incredibly tight – al-Jalil is hungry for a win, but the Orthodox are playing with real confidence right now.
It’s that confidence that has seen the Orthodox surge to the top of the league standings with 13 points – a remarkable achievement.
Yazan: Absolutely. They’re playing some phenomenal basketball right now, with a balanced attack and suffocating defence. Looking ahead, I think they’re the team to beat.
But hot on their heels are Ittihad Oman, just a point behind. then we have Al-Jubaiha and Al-Ahly tied for third with 11 points each.Do you think this is going to be a multi-team race to the finish line?
Yazan: Without a doubt. This league is incredibly competitive this year. Any team on their day can beat another, which is fantastic for the fans. This close competition is really creating a sense of unpredictability, making every game a must-watch.
Now, Coach, you’re intimately familiar with the struggles and rewards of coaching in this league. What do you think is the biggest challenge a coach faces in this highly competitive habitat?
Yazan: maintaining consistency is key. You can’t afford to have off nights in this league. Keeping players motivated and focused through a long season is a constant battle.
One team that will be hoping for a win this week is your former team, Amman Ittihad. They’re facing Shabab Bushra in Irbid – a tough match-up.
Yazan: Absolutely. Ittihad has struggled to find their rhythm this season, but they have the talent to turn things around. This game against Shabab bushra is a real opportunity for them to get back on track.
So, Coach, with the league so tight, what are your predictions for the rest of the season?
Yazan: it’s anyone’s game at this point. I believe the Orthodox are the favourites, but Ittihad Oman and Al-Jubaiha are right there with them. It’s going to be a thrilling race to the finish line.
That’s all the time we have for today. Thanks for your insights,Coach Abu Harb.
Yazan: Thank you for having me.
