Dominican Baseball League Honors Top Performers in 47th Annual Star Player of the Week Awards
The Santo Domingo Sports Writers Association (ACDSD) recently concluded voting for the prestigious “Star Player of the Week” awards, recognizing the standout athletes of the 2024-2025 Dominican Baseball League Professional (LIDOM) regular season. Over 90 sports journalists from across the Dominican Republic, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Pedro de macorís, La Romana, and san Francisco de Macorís, participated in the voting process.
The Rookie of the year category sparked considerable debate, with Johann Rojas of the Cibao Giants ultimately emerging victorious. Rojas’ extraordinary performance, highlighted by a .295 batting average, 20 runs scored, 28 hits, 6 doubles, a home run, 8 RBIs, 12 walks, and 23 stolen bases in 27 games, solidified his place as the top newcomer. Luis Moreno, a pitcher for the Estrellas Orientales, secured second place with a 2-2 record, a remarkable 1.83 ERA, 37 strikeouts in 39.1 innings, and a WHIP of 0.97. Erubiel Ángeles of the Estrellas rounded out the top three.
Aderlín Rodríguez of the Águilas Cibaeñas dominated the Most Valuable Player category, garnering 62 votes. JC Escarra, also from the Águilas, finished second with 13 votes, followed by Emilio Bonifacio of the Tigres del Licey with 6.
Enny Romero, the left-handed pitcher for the Águilas, received an overwhelming 81 votes, securing the pitcher of the Year award. His dominance was evident in the near-unanimous support from both in-person and digital voters, with only a handful of votes cast against him.
Yadier Molina of the Águilas was named Leader of the Year with 47 votes. Fernando Tatis II of the Estrellas finished second with 38 votes, while Gilbert Gómez of the Tigres del Licey and Alberto Pujols received 2 and 1 vote respectively.
The ACDSD’s commitment to inclusivity is reflected in its voting process, which extends beyond union members to encompass all sports communicators covering LIDOM games. This ensures a complete and accurate portrayal of the league’s top performers.
The Star Player of the Week awards ceremony will continue throughout the Round Robin, All against All, and semi-final rounds, with announcements made through customary media outlets. The event will be held at Club paraíso, generously supported by Almacenes Karaka, Logomarca, Miderec, Banreservas, and Seaboard Dominicana. The ACDSD, led by President Américo Celado, Treasurer Odalis Sánchez, and former Treasurer Porfirio De Jesús, expressed gratitude to Almacenes Karaka for their continued support in recognizing the dedication and hard work of Dominican sports journalists.
