Badminton, frequently enough overshadowed by more mainstream sports, is experiencing a surge in popularity. To delve deeper into this exciting trend, we sat down with former German national badminton player, Lena Petersen.

Lena Petersen: I think it’s absolutely fantastic! Badminton is an incredibly dynamic and accessible sport. These open house events are crucial for demystifying the sport and showing people that it’s fun for all ages and skill levels.
Moderator: The event description mentions “interactive stations” and “experienced trainers.” How critically important are these elements in encouraging newcomers to try badminton?
Lena Petersen: Hands-on experience is key! Having access to trainers who can guide beginners through the basics and offer tips is incredibly valuable. It can be intimidating to pick up a racquet for the first time, so having that support builds confidence and makes the learning process enjoyable.
Moderator: Absolutely. Many people assume badminton is simply a casual backyard game. But as a former professional, can you shed some light on the competitive side of the sport?
Lena Petersen: People are often surprised by the intensity and athleticism required to play badminton at a high level. It’s a sport that demands agility, speed, reflexes, and strategic thinking. Those afternoon competitive matches at the open house will give spectators a glimpse into the sheer power and finesse behind this seemingly simple game.
Moderator: I can definitely see how those elements could be captivating for viewers. the event also encourages families to participate. Do you think badminton is a good sport for children to get involved in?
Lena Petersen: Absolutely! Badminton is a grate way for kids to develop hand-eye coordination, improve agility, and learn about teamwork. It’s also a lot of fun, which is ultimately what keeps kids engaged and coming back for more.
Moderator: Thinking about your own experience, what advice would you give to someone considering taking up badminton, whether casually or competitively?
Lena Petersen: I’d say just give it a try! It’s a great way to stay active, meet new people, and challenge yourself both physically and mentally. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance from experienced players or coaches. And moast importantly, have fun!
