Culiacán’s Mayor Commits to Upgrading Archery Range at Parque Las Riberas
Culiacán Mayor Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil pledged to enhance the outdoor archery range located in Parque Las Riberas, responding to a request from local young archers.
Recognizing the importance of safe and suitable spaces for sports and family recreation, Gámez Mendívil assured the athletes, “Consider it done. I’m taking this as a priority, and you will undoubtedly have an excellent facility with the necessary amenities.”
Jimena Valenzuela, speaking on behalf of the archery group, outlined their needs, which included improved lighting, refurbished barbecue areas, restroom facilities, and a secure storage space for their equipment. These upgrades, they believe, would transform the range into a truly commendable space for practicing their sport.
The Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing dialog with the athletes and to addressing the needs of all Culiacán residents.He emphasized his dedication to projects that elevate the quality of life for citizens and optimize the city’s public spaces. Welcome back to “Sports Town Talk”! Today we have the incredible Alejandra García, Olympic archer and gold medalist, joining us to discuss some exciting news out of Culiacán, Mexico. As many of you may have heard, Mayor Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil has committed to upgrading the outdoor archery range at Parque Las Riberas. Alejandra, thank you so much for being here.
Alejandra: Thanks for having me. It’s always great to discuss somthing so close to my heart – archery, and of course, supporting aspiring athletes!
Host: Absolutely! Now, Alejandra, this upgrade is based on requests from young archers in the area, including better lighting, refurbished barbecue areas, and even secure storage. What are your thoughts on this initiative?
Alejandra: It’s fantastic news! I firmly believe that investing in public sports infrastructure is crucial for nurturing young talent. These improvements will create a much safer and more inviting environment for archers of all skill levels. Improved lighting is especially notable for safety, and having dedicated storage space for bows and arrows will ensure proper maintenance and security.
Host: I agree. It’s crucial to create spaces where young athletes feel supported and motivated.Many may argue that resources are limited and should be directed towards other pressing issues. How would you respond to that?
Alejandra: I understand those concerns. But think of it this way – investing in sports and recreation is an investment in the future. It promotes healthy living, encourages teamwork and discipline, and provides a positive outlet for youth. A thriving sporting community can also boost a city’s image and attract tourism.

This initiative aligns with a national trend in Mexico, with municipalities across the country investing in recreational infrastructure. Do you think this reflects a change in priorities?
Alejandra: I hope so! I believe there’s a growing recognition of the importance of sports and recreation for individual well-being and community development.
