The Algerian Tennis Federation (FAT) is set to elect new leadership on January 15th, 2025. The proclamation came following a meeting of the Appeals Commission, which reviewed eleven applications for key positions within the institution.The election, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Federal Training Center in Ben Aknoun, Algiers, marks a pivotal moment for Algerian tennis.
The Commission meticulously evaluated appeals and validated applications for both the presidency and membership on the Federal Bureau. A diverse range of candidates, boasting experience from various tennis leagues and organizations, are vying for these influential roles.

Oussama ismail Masmoudi, a prominent figure in the Arab Tennis union and president of the Biskra Raquette Club, has submitted his candidacy for the presidency. His extensive experience and dedication to the sport make him a strong contender.

Moderator: Exciting times are ahead for Algerian tennis with the upcoming leadership elections for the Algerian Tennis Federation (FAT).On January 15th, a new president and Federal Bureau members will be chosen. What are your thoughts on this pivotal moment?
Karim: This election is absolutely crucial for the future of tennis in Algeria. We need strong and visionary leadership to propel the sport forward. The FAT needs to focus on grassroots development,improve coaching infrastructure,and create more opportunities for young players to compete on a national and international stage.
Moderator: oussama Ismail Masmoudi, a prominent figure in the Arab Tennis Union, has thrown his hat in the ring for the presidency. He brings considerable experience to the table. What do you think his potential strengths and weaknesses might be?
Karim: Masmoudi’s experience with the Arab Tennis Union is certainly valuable. He understands the regional landscape and the challenges facing tennis in North Africa. However, I believe the FAT needs someone who is deeply connected to the Algerian tennis community, someone who understands the specific needs of our players and clubs.
Moderator: The competition for Federal Bureau membership is equally fierce, with candidates hailing from various tennis leagues and organizations across the country. What qualities should we be looking for in these individuals?
Karim: We need bureau members who are passionate about developing tennis at all levels, from grassroots to elite.
They should have a thorough understanding of the sport’s rules and regulations, financial management experience, and strong dialogue and interpersonal skills.
Moderator: Some people have voiced concerns about the lack of female representation on the ballot. Do you think this is something the FAT should address urgently?
Karim: absolutely. It’s crucial that the FAT reflects the diversity of our tennis community.
We need more women in leadership positions to ensure that the needs and aspirations of female players are heard and addressed.

Karim, you’ve witnessed the evolution of Algerian tennis firsthand. What key lessons have you learned over the years, and what advice would you give to the incoming leadership?
Karim: The biggest lesson is that investing in youth development is paramount.We need to create a robust pipeline of talent by providing young players with access to quality coaching,equipment,and competition opportunities. The incoming leadership needs to prioritize long-term planning and sustainability for the Algerian Tennis Federation.
