Noppert reflects on Near Transfers adn Continued Success at Heerenveen
Despite a stellar World Cup performance in 2022, Dutch goalkeeper Andries Noppert remained with SC Heerenveen for the 2023-2024 season. The experienced shot-stopper, who has earned five caps for the Netherlands, recently opened up to Voetbal International about the whirlwind transfer periods he’s navigated in recent years.
Noppert, known for his calm demeanor, admitted that the constant speculation and expectations surrounding his future can be overwhelming. “It’s definitely a rollercoaster,” he confessed. “Everyone has their own ideas about where you should go and assumes you’ll be moving on.”
The summer of 2023 saw noppert come close to securing a high-profile transfer. He engaged in discussions with two of the Netherlands’ top clubs, a testament to his enduring talent despite a less triumphant season with heerenveen. “It’s incredibly flattering that clubs of that caliber still consider you after a less stellar year,” Noppert remarked.
While his conversation with Ajax left a positive impression, a potential move was ultimately blocked by Jay Gorter’s reluctance to make the reverse journey to Heerenveen. Subsequent talks with Feyenoord also fell through when it became clear that Justin Bijlow would be staying put.
“It’s a bit of bad luck, I suppose,” Noppert reflected. ”You never know if things would have worked out differently, but I’m content with my current situation at Heerenveen.”
The 30-year-old goalkeeper is contracted to Heerenveen until mid-2027. He has made 48 official appearances for the club, keeping 14 clean sheets. Noppert’s recent reunion with goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek at the Abe Lenstra Stadion adds another layer of familiarity and stability to his time in Friesland.
