Antonio, congratulations on securing your spot on the Italian national team for the upcoming World Archery Championships in Lac La Biche, Canada. This is a remarkable achievement, especially at such a young age. How does it feel knowing you’ll be representing your country on a global stage?
Antonio: “Grazie mille! It’s an honor and a dream come true. I’ve been training consistently since I was a kid, pushing myself to improve with every shot. To now be standing here, knowing I’ll be wearing the Italian jersey, it’s surreal. I’m filled with excitement and a healthy dose of nerves.”
Your coach, Fiore Giuseppe de Lucia, mentioned your unbelievable dedication and consistent success. What would you say is the driving force behind your passion for archery? Is it the mental focus, the physical challenge, or something else entirely?
Antonio: “It’s a combination of factors. Archery demands intense focus, almost meditative at times. But there’s also the physical challenge of maintaining perfect form, thriving under pressure, and mastering the technique. But ultimately, it’s the sense of accomplishment. Landing that perfect shot, knowing I’ve honed my skills through countless hours of practice, that’s the feeling I chase.”
It’s amazing to see you balancing your athletic prowess with academic excellence. To graduate high school with remarkable marks while simultaneously training at a high level is truly impressive. How do you manage to excel in both spheres?
Antonio: “It’s not always easy, I’ll admit. There are days when I’m exhausted from training and studying feels overwhelming. But my parents and coaches have instilled in me the importance of discipline and time management. I carve out dedicated time for both pursuits, and I find that excelling in one area fuels my motivation in the other. Achieving balance is a constant work in progress, but it’s incredibly rewarding.”
You’re headed to Canada for the World championships. Given the level of competition, have you been focusing on any specific aspects of your training in preparation for
this event?
Antonio: “Absolutely. We’ve been working rigorously on refining my shot consistency, as well as strengthening my mental game. This level of competition requires unwavering focus and the ability to perform under pressure. We’ve also been studying video footage of my potential opponents to strategize and identify their weaknesses. It’s a combination of physical and mental preparation.”
Beyond your own personal success, what do you hope to achieve with your archery career?
Antonio: “I dream of inspiring young people to pursue their passions, no matter how challenging thay may seem. Archery has taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of perseverance. If my journey can encourage others to chase their dreams, then I’ll consider my career a success.”
