Abruzzo’s Archery Stars Shine Radiant on the International Stage
The ASD Arcieri Abruzzesi archery club is celebrating a remarkable year, with three of its athletes achieving outstanding success on the international stage. Roberta Di Francesco, Flavia Trabucco, and Giorgia Montaldi were recently honored by the CONI Provinciale di Chieti for thier remarkable achievements.
Di Francesco secured the gold medal at the World Championships,while Trabucco claimed the silver medal at the same prestigious event. Montaldi added to the club’s success by winning gold at the Italian Cup. These victories highlight the dedication, discipline, and unwavering focus required to excel in this ancient sport.
Archery, with roots dating back millennia, has evolved from a hunting tool to a highly competitive sport. Evidence of archery’s long history can be found in ancient cave paintings and literary works like Homer’s Odyssey. The sport made its Olympic debut in 1900 and continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
In Italy, archery experienced a surge in popularity during the Fascist era, and today boasts over 510 clubs nationwide. the Abruzzo region is home to ten of these clubs, reflecting the growing interest in this sport. Archery ranges are increasingly common in tourist destinations and urban areas across Abruzzo, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Massimiliano Milozzi, President of the CONI Provinciale di Chieti, expressed his pride in recognizing these exceptional athletes. He emphasized the CONI’s commitment to supporting all sports, regardless of their size or popularity. Milozzi also highlighted the sacrifices made by athletes and their families, acknowledging their crucial role in achieving success.
Marco Di Virgilio, Secretary of the ASD Arcieri Abruzzesi, shared the club’s mission to introduce archery to young people and foster a passion for the sport. He emphasized the club’s family-friendly atmosphere, with parents frequently enough participating alongside their children.
The three athletes expressed their gratitude for the recognition and shared their aspirations for the future. Di Francesco, representing both the Fiamme azzurre and the Corpo di Polizia Penitenziaria, aims to continue her winning streak and bring further glory to her club and sporting groups. Trabucco,who began her archery journey at the age of nine and has been part of the national team for three years,is steadfast to improve her skills and gain more international experience. Montaldi, who has been practicing archery for a decade using a compound bow, is eager to continue her progress and compete in international events.
These remarkable achievements by the ASD Arcieri Abruzzesi athletes not only showcase their individual talent but also highlight the growing popularity and success of archery in the Abruzzo region.
