Rehviashvili Takes the Helm at Auda as Interim Coach
Following the departure of head coach Zoran Zelkovic, Auda has appointed former Georgian international Giorgi Rehviashvili as interim coach. Rehviashvili, a seasoned football professional wiht a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, will guide the team through the initial stages of pre-season training.
Rehviashvili’s extraordinary playing career saw him achieve notable success in Latvia. Representing Riga “Skonto,” he secured six Latvian championship titles and five latvian Cup victories. He further added to his trophy cabinet with two Latvian Cup wins while playing for “Ventspils.”
Beyond Latvian club football, Rehviashvili proudly donned the jersey of the Georgian national team, making 21 appearances. After retiring from playing,he transitioned into a leadership role, serving as the sports director for “Dinamo” Tbilisi,a prominent Georgian club. Most recently, he honed his coaching skills as an assistant coach for “Super Nova.”
Auda’s decision to appoint rehviashvili comes after a shakeup in the coaching staff. The club parted ways with Zelkovic, the Slovenian head coach, and the remaining coaching staff also departed.
Last season, Auda secured a respectable third-place finish in the Latvian Superleague and reached the Latvian Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by RFS. With Rehviashvili at the helm, the team will look to build on these achievements in the upcoming season.
Rehviashvili at the Auda Helm: A Change of Pace or Simply More of the same?
Welcome back, football fans! Today we’re diving into the recent shakeup at Latvian Superleague side Auda, who’ve appointed former Georgian international Giorgi Rehviashvili as their interim coach. To help us dissect this move, we’ve got a very special guest – former Latvian national team striker, Maris Verpakovskis.Maris, thanks for joining us!
Me: Giorgi Rehviashvili, a name synonymous with success in Latvian football. Six league titles with Skonto, numerous cup wins, and 21 caps for Georgia – an remarkable resume! But is his experience enough to lead Auda to even greater heights?
Maris Verpakovskis: Without a doubt, Rehviashvili brings a wealth of playing experience and a winning mentality to the table. His time at Skonto, especially, speaks volumes about his understanding of the Latvian game. though, coaching is a different beast entirely.
Me: That’s a point. What are your thoughts on Rehviashvili’s brief stint as assistant coach at Super Nova? Does it adequately prepare him for the top job at Auda?
Maris Verpakovskis: While any coaching experience is valuable, Super Nova is a smaller club compared to Auda. this is a significant step up in pressure and responsibility. Rehviashvili will need to quickly adapt to managing the expectations and demands of a club vying for top honours.
Me: You mentioned the pressure of reaching the top. Auda finished third last season and narrowly lost in the Latvian cup final. Can Rehviashvili build on this foundation and maybe even push for the title?
Maris Verpakovskis: there’s definitely potential. Auda has a good squad and showed immense promise last season. They need that extra push, a bit of tactical nous, to close the gap with RFS and the other contenders.Whether Rehviashvili can provide that, only time will tell.
Me: This appointment follows a complete overhaul of Auda’s coaching staff. Was the sudden departure of Zoran Zelkovic and his assistants necessary?
Maris Verpakovskis: Well, football is a results-driven business. While Zelkovic achieved good things with Auda, perhaps the club felt a change was needed to spark fresh momentum. It’s a big gamble, bringing in a new interim coach so close to pre-season.
Me: Absolutely. It’s a defining moment for Auda.
