## Malaysian Open: Pearly-thinaah Aim for Breakthrough performance
The upcoming Malaysian Open, taking place from January 7th to 12th at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, presents a golden chance for MalaysiaS top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah. [1] Having struggled to advance past the early rounds in previous editions, the world No. 6 duo are poised to make a deep run this year thanks to a favorable draw.
Pearly-Thinaah,seeded third, have consistently ranked among the world’s elite since their debut in 2022. However, they have yet to translate their ranking into significant tournament success at the Malaysian Open. After a second-round exit in 2022,they suffered first-round defeats in both 2023 and 2024.
This year, the path appears clearer. Their opening match pits them against indonesia’s new pairing of Siti Fadia Ramadhanti and Lanny Tria. Fadia, a former champion at the event, partnered with Apriyani Rahayu in 2022 but has since teamed up with Lanny following the Paris Olympics.
Should Pearly-Thinaah overcome this initial hurdle, they will face the victors of the all-Taiwanese clash between Teng Chun-hsun-Yang Chu-yun and Hsu Yin-hui-Lin Jhih-yun in the second round. A potential quarter-final showdown looms against India’s world No. 11 and sixth seeds,Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand.
The top half of the draw also features formidable opponents like china’s defending champions and top seeds, liu Shengshu-Tan ning, and Indonesia’s fifth seeds, Febriani Kusuma-Amalia Cahaya. A potential semi-final clash between Pearly-Thinaah and Shengshu-Tan Ning could be a highlight of the tournament.
Beyond Pearly-Thinaah, Malaysia will field a strong contingent in the women’s doubles. Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien, Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing, and Asian Junior Championships bronze medallists Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting will all be vying for success.
Vivian, set to retire after the tournament, will team up with Chiew sien to face Taiwan’s Cheng Yu-pei-Sun Yu-hsing in the first round. Pei Kee-mei Xing will take on Japan’s Kokona Ishikawa-Mio Konegawa, while Xin Yee-Carmen, making their Super 1000 debut after being promoted from the reserves list, will face Taiwan’s Sung Shuo-yun-Yu Chien-hui.
