Barbastro Football Club Announces Roster Changes for Second Half of the Season
UD barbastro is gearing up for the second half of the league season with a revamped roster. The club recently announced the departures of three players: Manu Castillo, Damián Navarro, and Ángel Rueda. These changes come as the team aims to solidify its position and secure its place in the league.
Castillo, a central defender who joined Barbastro from Cerdanyola in June 2024, made 15 appearances for the club. His final appearance was a 12-minute stint against FC Barcelona. Navarro, a lateral defender with experience in clubs like Águilas and Celtic Elche, also joined in June 2024 but saw limited playing time, featuring in only four league games. Rueda, another central defender, arrived from San Fernando and contributed to seven games during the first half of the season.
Despite these departures, Barbastro is actively strengthening its squad.Argentine central defender Nico, who was loaned to At. Monsoon where he impressively scored five goals, is set to return to Barbastro. This acquisition is expected to bolster the team’s defensive line.
Furthermore, the club is actively pursuing the addition of a forward to the squad by January 19th. President Josan Fierro confirmed that efforts are underway to secure another attacker as well. These reinforcements demonstrate Barbastro’s commitment to improving its performance in the second half of the season and achieving its primary objective: league permanence.
Reinforcements and Roster Revamps: A Chat with Former La Liga Star Javier Portillo
Welcome back too “Inside the dugout”! Today, I’m joined by seasoned La Liga veteran Javier Portillo, who brings his vast experience and sharp insights to dissect UD Barbastro’s recent roster shakeup. Welcome, Javier!
Javier: Thanks for having me. I’m always happy to chat football.
Moderator: Let’s dive right in. Barbastro’s announced the departures of three players – Manu Castillo, Damián Navarro, and Ángel Rueda – all defenders. What’s your initial reaction to these changes?
Javier: Well, it’s never easy to see players leave, especially mid-season. But ultimately, football is a results-driven business. It truly seems Barbastro is making moves to address what might be weaknesses in their defense. Losing three players at once suggests there were some underlying issues that needed attention.
Moderator: Absolutely. And they’re bringing back Nico, a center-back on loan from At. Monsoon who impressed with five goals.Do you think this is a smart move?
Javier: I think it’s a shrewd move. Nico clearly has the potential, and five goals from a defender is nothing to sneeze at. He has experience now, having played elsewhere, and returning to a familiar habitat could help him flourish.
Moderator: they’re also actively searching for another forward by January 19th. Should attacking reinforcements be a higher priority than defensive ones given their current league position?
Javier: That’s the million-dollar question! On the one hand, a solid defense is the foundation of any successful team. But you can’t win games if you don’t score. Barbastro needs to find that delicate balance. If they have a good defensive base, adding a potent attacker could really give them the edge they need.
Moderator: Do you think Barbastro has enough time to make these changes and see results before the season’s end?
Javier: It’s tight, but not impossible. The January transfer window can be a wildcard. A few well-chosen additions could make all the difference. But ultimately, it comes down to team chemistry and execution on the pitch.
Moderator: Excellent points, Javier.
