Benfica’s women’s volleyball team welcomes a new powerhouse to its ranks: 29-year-old Croatian international Barbara Dapic. The experienced opposite hitter, standing tall at 1.93 meters, is eager to make her mark on the Portuguese league.
Dapic, who will wear the number 21 jersey, expressed confidence in her ability to seamlessly integrate into the team. “I’ve always played as an opposite hitter and believe I’ll adapt quickly to the team’s dynamics,” she stated.

Dapic and Holt previously shared the court for four seasons with NUC Volleyball in Switzerland, forging a strong bond both on and off the court. “We’ve always stayed in touch, hoping to reunite as teammates,” Dapic shared. “there’s nothing quite like that shared experience, and when this opportunity arose, we were overjoyed. I’m incredibly excited for this new chapter.”
dapic is eager to experience the passionate support of Benfica’s fans. “I hope to see many supporters cheering us on as we strive to win the major competitions we’re competing in,” she declared.
Prior to joining Benfica, Dapic played for Gwangju Pepper Savings Bank AI PEPPERS in South Korea during the first phase of the season. She described the experience as a unique departure from her European playing days. “They have a diffrent approach to athlete progress and training,” she observed.
Barbara dapic: Taking Flight with Benfica
Welcome back, sports fans! Today, we have a real treat – a chance to sit down with Croatian volleyball star Barbara Dapic, Benfica’s newest powerhouse. Welcome, Barbara!
Barbara: Thank you for having me! I’m thrilled to be here and excited for this new chapter in my career.
Let’s jump right in. You’ve joined Benfica with an impressive resume, having played in Switzerland and even South Korea. What drew you to the Portuguese league and Benfica specifically?
Barbara: You’re right, my journey has been quiet international! Benfica ticked a lot of boxes for me. First, head coach Rui Moreira made a compelling case for the team’s vision and playing style. Second, seeing a familiar face in Kyra Holt, a former teammate from Nuc Volleyball in Switzerland, definitely sweetened the deal.
Speaking of Kyra, you two have a long history on the court and a strong bond off the court. How do you think that will translate to your time with Benfica?
Barbara:
Kyra and I have an amazing understanding on the court – almost telepathic at times! Having that pre-existing synergy will definitely be an asset for the team. We push each other to be better, and we also know how to celebrate each other’s successes. It’s going to be fun!
You mentioned adapting to Benfica’s playing style. Can you elaborate on that? What are your initial impressions of the team’s dynamic?
Barbara: Every team has its unique rhythm and approach. From what I’ve seen so far, Benfica is a team full of energy, with a strong focus on fast, attacking plays. My role as an opposite hitter fits right into that dynamic. I thrive on fast-paced games where I can utilize my power and precision.
You’ve had the experience of playing in different volleyball cultures, from europe to South Korea. How would you compare those experiences, and what did you take away from each?
Barbara: Each experience has been incredibly enriching. In Europe, I’ve enjoyed the technically driven style of play, with a strong emphasis on strategy and teamwork.
South Korea,on the other hand, offered a different perspective.Their approach to athlete progress and training is quite unique, focused heavily on discipline and physical conditioning. I learned a lot about pushing my limits and developing mental toughness.
Benfica is known for its passionate fanbase. Have you had a chance to experience that energy yet? What are your expectations for the season ahead?
Barbara: I can’t wait to feel that Benfica spirit firsthand! From what I’ve heard, the fans are incredible.
My goal is to contribute to the team’s success and help bring home some silverware. We’re aiming high – the Portuguese league title is definitely within reach, and we’ll be giving it our all in the major competitions.
