French Biathlon Team Aims for Resurgence at Oberhof World Cup
The French biathlon squad is gearing up for the fourth stage of the Biathlon World Cup, taking place in Oberhof, Germany, starting Thursday. Following a strong opening performance in Finland, the team experienced a slight dip in form during the Hochfilzen and Grand-Bornand events.
With the World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, looming in February, the two-week break in the competition schedule hopefully provided the French athletes with the possibility to recharge and refocus. The upcoming January triple-header (Oberhof-Ruhpolding-Antholz) will serve as a crucial testing ground for the teamS readiness for the pinnacle event of the season.
Currently, Norwegian superstar Johannes Boe and German powerhouse Franziska Preuss lead the overall standings, holding a agreeable advantage over their rivals.

Chasing Glory: A Conversation with Biathlon Legend Raphaël Poirée
Teh legendary Raphaël Poirée, a four-time Biathlon World Champion and Olympic medalist, joins us today to dissect the French teamS prospects at the upcoming Oberhof World Cup.
Moderator: Raphaël, after a strong start in Finland, the French team seemed to hit a bit of a wall in Hochfilzen and Grand-Bornand. What do you attribute this dip in performance to? Was it fatigue, tactical errors, or something else entirely?
Poirée: There are always ebbs and flows in a long season like this. It’s not uncommon for teams to experience some inconsistency. Perhaps they were feeling the pressure of expectations after that impressive opening performance. Hochfilzen and Grand-Bornand are also notoriously challenging courses, so it’s possible the conditions played a role.
Moderator: the two-week break before Oberhof must have been a welcome respite. Do you think this break will have allowed the team to regroup and refocus ahead of this crucial triple-header?
Poirée: Absolutely. These breaks are vital. They allow athletes time to recover physically and mentally, work on any technical issues, and fine-tune their strategies. The January triple-header is a real litmus test, especially for the World Championships in February. For the French team, these races will be all about finding their rhythm again and proving they are contenders for the podium in Lenzerheide.
Moderator: Johannes Boe and franziska Preuss are currently dominating the standings. How do you see the French team matching up against these powerhouses?
Poirée: Boe is in a league of his own right now, putting up some truly stunning performances. Preuss is also incredibly strong. But the French team has the talent and experience to challenge them. They need to focus on their own race plan, minimize mistakes, and capitalize on any opportunities that arise.
Moderator: what advice would you give to the French team as they head into what promises to be a thrilling World Cup stage?
Poirée: Stay focused, trust your training, and don’t be intimidated by the competition.Remember, anything is possible in biathlon. One small slip-up can change everything, but so can a moment of brilliance.
Moderator: Thank you for your insights, Raphaël.It’s always a pleasure to hear from a Biathlon legend.
