Wesel Badminton Team Surprises with Victory Despite Missing Key Players
The BV Wesel RW badminton team pulled off a stunning upset against 1. BC beuel III, securing a crucial 5:3 victory in their Regionalliga match. This win propelled them out of the relegation zone and sent their opponents tumbling down the standings.
Team manager Andreas Ruth expressed his delight, stating that such a performance had been absent for quite some time.the victory was even more remarkable considering the team’s depleted roster. Both Ella Diehl and lisa Bonnemann were unavailable due to illness, leaving the team without their usual strong female presence.
“The circumstances weren’t ideal,” admitted Ruth. Thankfully, Marie Vens and Lilly Mühlisch stepped up from the Landesliga reserve team to fill the void in the women’s doubles. Thay put up a valiant fight, notably in the first set, showcasing their resilience.
What truly impressed Ruth, however, was the men’s team’s ability to clinch those tight, decisive matches. Remco Pots, in particular, secured a thrilling victory with a 21-19 score in the third set. “I was especially happy for Remco,” Ruth remarked,”but all the men played exceptionally well. Philipp Volovnik, as promised, avenged his previous loss in the first singles match.”
Ruth had previously emphasized the need for the men’s team to contribute more points in the second half of the season. This victory served as a testament to their improved performance and a clear message to their rivals that the team’s strength extends beyond it’s two extraordinary female players.
Looking ahead, BV Wesel RW will host the third-placed team, 1. BC Recklinghausen, on January 25th at 6 pm in the Rundsporthalle. The team hopes to have both Diehl and Bonnemann back in the lineup for this challenging encounter, aiming to avenge their earlier 1-7 defeat.
