The sheer distances covered, often over some of the most challenging terrain imaginable, take a toll on even the most seasoned drivers.
Sleep deprivation,grueling heat,and navigating through endless dunes – it’s a constant battle against the elements and your own limits. Throw in the pressure of competition, and it becomes an incredibly intense mental and physical challenge.”
Sainz’s accident has undoubtedly shaken things up in the championship standings. Do you think his withdrawal significantly impacts the balance of power among the contenders remaining in the race?
Sébastien Loeb:
” Absolutely. Carlos was a serious contender for victory.
His absence creates an opportunity for drivers like Nasser Al-Attiyah, who has already won the Dakar five times, and Henk Lategan, who has been in strong form recently.Even the younger drivers, like Matthias Walkner, who’s already a two-time Dakar winner in the motorcycle category, have a chance to make a move. This Dakar is wide open now.”
