Exclusive Interview with Former Archery Champion,Élodie Dumont,on the Manche archery Championships 2025
Moderator: Welcome,Élodie dumont,to our sports forum today. As a former French archery champion and a coach with over two decades of experience, your insights are invaluable. Let’s dive into the upcoming Manche Archery Club Team Championship and Manche Youth Championship, set to take place on January 25 and 26, 2025, at the Courtilles Gymnasium in Coutances. What are your thoughts on this event?
Élodie Dumont: Thank you for having me. This event is a fantastic chance for archers in the Manche department to showcase their skills. Hosting both the Team Championship and the Youth Championship on the same weekend is a brilliant move.It fosters camaraderie among clubs and provides younger archers with a platform to learn from experienced competitors.
Moderator: The article mentions that over 60 participants will compete in the Youth Championship. How significant is this number in terms of youth engagement in archery?
Élodie Dumont: Sixty participants for a regional youth championship is quite impressive. It shows that archery is gaining traction among younger generations. However, I believe we can do even better. Archery is a sport that teaches discipline, focus, and patience—skills that are invaluable in life. We need more initiatives to introduce archery in schools and communities to further boost participation.
Moderator: Maureen Lebouteiller, the newly elected president of the rose au Bouais Club, mentioned that the competition will start at 9 a.m.and conclude with an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on both days. How does this schedule compare to other archery events you’ve participated in or coached?
Élodie Dumont: The schedule is fairly standard for regional championships. Starting early allows participants to compete in different categories without feeling rushed. The awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. is a nice touch—it gives everyone time to reflect on their performance and celebrate their achievements. However,I’d like to see more interactive sessions, such as workshops or Q&A panels with seasoned archers,to enrich the experience.
Moderator: The event is free for spectators, which is a great way to attract more interest in the sport. Do you think this approach helps in promoting archery?
Élodie Dumont: Absolutely! Making the event free removes barriers for people who might be curious about archery but hesitant to attend. it’s an excellent opportunity for spectators to witness the precision and intensity of the sport firsthand. I also hope the organizers use this platform to educate attendees about archery—perhaps by offering mini-demonstrations or try-it-yourself sessions.
Moderator: What advice would you give to the young archers participating in this championship?
Élodie Dumont: My advice would be to focus on the process, not just the outcome. Archery is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. Stay calm, trust your training, and enjoy the experience. Win or lose, this event is a stepping stone in their archery journey.
Moderator: what are your hopes for the future of archery in the Manche department and beyond?
Élodie Dumont: I hope to see continued growth and investment in the sport. Events like these are crucial, but we also need more infrastructure, coaching programs, and media coverage to elevate archery to the next level. Archery has the potential to be a mainstream sport, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
