Chelsea Green’s reign as United States Champion kicked off with a hard-fought victory against Michin on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown. This rematch, a repeat of their Saturday Night’s Main Event encounter, saw Green successfully defend her title, albeit with some assistance from her ally, Piper niven.
Michin came out strong, immediately attempting to secure a swift victory with her signature finisher. Green, however, displayed impressive agility, evading the hold adn strategically retreating outside the ring. Upon re-entering the ring, Green attempted a surprise attack, but Michin countered with a powerful dropkick, seizing control of the match.Throughout the bout, Michin dominated with a series of high-impact moves, including hurricanranas, a shotgun dropkick, and a devastating cannonball.
Despite Michin’s relentless assault, Green refused to yield. She showcased her resilience by countering a potential defeat with a well-timed Flatliner. The climax arrived when Michin attempted a daring diving crossbody. However, Niven’s timely distraction allowed Green to capitalize, reversing Michin’s momentum and securing the pin while holding onto her swimsuit for a controversial, yet successful, first title defense.
Green’s victory: Dirty Tactics or Sheer Survival? We Debate With Wrestling Legend “The Destroyer” Don Davis
Chelsea Green’s reign as WWE United States Champion began with a bang (and maybe a bit of a cheat) this week on SmackDown. After a hard-fought battle against Michin, Green emerged victorious, but not without controversy.
To unpack this controversial victory,we’re joined by wrestling legend and former multiple-time champion,”The Destroyer” Don Davis. Don, thanks for joining us.
Don: Always a pleasure, especially when we’re talking about good old-fashioned, no-holds-barred wrestling!
Well, Don, there’s no denying that Green displayed undeniable resilience throughout the match. Michin seemed to have the upper hand for a good chunk of it. What are your thoughts on Green’s performance, aside from the controversial finish?
Don: I’ll give Green credit, she’s got guts. That Flatliner counter was textbook stuff, and she showed real grit to stay in the fight even when Michin was dishing out punishment. But c’mon, Don, let’s call a spade a spade – that distraction from Piper Niven? That ain’t championship material. It’s the kind of cheap tactic that leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
We saw a lot of high-impact moves from Michin in this match. What did you make of her strategy?
Don I think Michin was going for broke. She knew Green was tough, so she wanted to put her away early with those big moves. the cannonball, the hurricanranas, all designed to knock the wind out of Green. Sadly, sometimes explosive offenses can leave you open to counterattacks.
Manny fans are debating whether Niven’s interference was a legitimate tactic or not. Some argue that it’s simply smart strategy in the cutthroat world of WWE.What’s your take?
Don: Look, I’m a purist. I believe in fair play, in letting the best wrestler win based on their own skill and talent.Niven’s interference was a blatant attempt to discredit Michin and rob her of a deserved victory. It’s not about being “smart,” it’s about integrity. This ain’t checkers, it’s chess, and cheating your way to the top only diminishes the victory.
Do you think this controversial win tarnishes Green’s newly acquired championship status?
Don: It definitely casts a shadow. Green has shown she’s got the heart of a champion, but this victory will always be tinged with doubt. To truly solidify her reign, she needs to prove she can win clean, without relying on shortcuts.
Looking ahead, what do you think Michin needs to do to capture the title?
Don: She needs to learn from this mistake. She can’t let emotions get the better of her. She needs a solid game plan to counter Green and Niven’s tactics, and she needs to stay focused on her own strengths.
