Local Collaboration: A Winning Formula? A Discussion with Former Rugby Star Juancho Dominguez
The recent meeting between Comodoro Deportes and Chubut Deportes, uniting a diverse range of sporting disciplines under one banner, has ignited conversations about the future of sports in the region. We sat down with local sporting legend, former rugby star Juancho Dominguez, to get his insights on this exciting development.
Moderator: Juancho, thanks for joining us. the recent summit brought together athletes and administrators from over 30 disciplines. What are your initial thoughts on this level of collaboration?
Juancho Dominguez: It’s a fantastic initiative. For years,I’ve felt that a more unified approach was necessary to truly elevate sports in our community. Silos between different disciplines hinder progress. This kind of open dialog and shared vision can only be a positive force.
Moderator: Beatriz Neira, representing the Women’s Indoor Soccer Association, spoke about the impact of support from both organizations on the growth of sports. Do you believe this kind of support is crucial at the grassroots level?
juancho dominguez: Absolutely. It’s not just about funding, though that is essential. It’s about creating a system where young athletes feel supported, where clubs have the resources to thrive, and where there are clear pathways for development.
Moderator: Gustavo Camino, President of the Main Futsal commission, highlighted the importance of receiving yearly guidelines early in the season. Having been both a player and a coach, how crucial is this kind of clarity and planning in achieving success?
juancho Dominguez: Absolutely vital. When I was coaching, knowing what resources were available, what tournaments were planned, and what the overall direction was, allowed me to strategize effectively and set realistic goals for my team.
Moderator: Victor Farcy of the Malvinas Argentinas Club praised the open interaction fostered by this collaboration. From your experience, how dose open communication impact team morale and performance?
Juancho Dominguez: Look, in rugby, communication is everything. But it applies to any sport. When athletes and administrators feel heard, respected, and involved in the decision-making process, it creates a sense of ownership and duty. This translates into better team cohesion, greater motivation, and ultimately, better results.
Moderator: Carlos Echeveste commended the Province’s sports policy for its inclusivity. Do you feel this inclusivity extends to all levels of sporting participation, from grassroots to professional?
Juancho Dominguez: That’s a great question. While the Province’s policy is commendable, there’s always room for enhancement. We need to ensure that opportunities are accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, gender,or level of skill.
Moderator: Juancho, what message would you have for young athletes starting out in sports today?
Juancho Dominguez: Believe in yourself. Work hard. Surround yourself with good people. And never underestimate the power of collaboration.
