A New Sporting Hub Rises in Crotone
Crotone is set to become a beacon of athletic excellence with the construction of a state-of-the-art indoor sports facility. This aspiring project, slated for the vibrant neighborhood of 300 homes, will provide a dedicated space for popular disciplines like gymnastics, judo, karate, and various martial arts.
This new facility is part of a broader initiative to transform Crotone into a hub for sports and community engagement. The city’s commitment to this vision was recently showcased at the “Urban Regeneration Festival” in Rome, highlighting Crotone’s innovative approach to promoting physical activity and social cohesion.
The project builds upon existing sporting infrastructure in the area, including the municipal Olympic swimming pool, sector B (soon to be named after Dodò Gabriele), the historic 11-a-side football field (now a multi-purpose space), and the ongoing Geodetics project.A Sustainable and Inclusive Space
Funded by €1,500,000 from the PNRR, the new facility will be a model of sustainability and user-friendliness. Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the structure will prioritize environmental consciousness, climate comfort, and stringent safety standards.Aesthetically pleasing both inside and out, the building will utilize materials that harmonize with the surrounding environment, creating a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere.
Located between via Gioacchino da Fiore and via Paolo Borsellino, the project underwent rigorous technical analysis, including geological and geotechnical investigations and detailed topographic surveys.
Purpose-Built for Athletic Excellence
The facility will be divided into three distinct sections: a spacious gymnasium, service areas, and a storage unit. Spanning approximately 3,200 square meters, the gymnasium will boast a 440 square meter training area equipped with specialized equipment for gymnastics, including a pit for parallel bars, a ring castle, beam and vaulting areas, and a free body platform.
Athletes will benefit from dedicated changing rooms accessible from both the exterior and the training area. A separate tool warehouse with direct access to the training space and a technical room housing the boiler and solar thermal system will ensure smooth operations.
Looking Ahead
The facility will also feature a photovoltaic system and a well-lit outdoor parking area. Councilor Bossi expressed his enthusiasm for the project, praising the dedication of the municipal offices and the project team lead by architect Gilda Squillace. He anticipates the construction phase to commence by the end of January, marking a significant step towards realizing this exciting vision for Crotone’s sporting future.
