Crotone Invests in a Cutting-Edge sports Complex
Crotone is gearing up for a meaningful boost to its sporting infrastructure with the green light given to a new, state-of-the-art indoor sports facility. Councilor Luca Bossi, responsible for PNRR and Sports Facilities, spearheaded the project, which will be located within the vibrant “Cittadella dello Sport” in the 300 accommodation district.
This innovative complex, estimated to cost 1.5 million euros and funded by the PNRR,will cater to a wide range of popular disciplines, including gymnastics and martial arts like judo and karate. Designed to be a hub for these activities, the facility will seamlessly integrate with existing and revitalized sports venues in the area. These include the municipal Olympic swimming pool, sector B (named after Dodò Gabriele), the multi-purpose 11-a-side football field, and the Geodetics, currently in the planning stages.
Beyond its functional purpose, the new sports complex is envisioned as a model of sustainability and modern design. Prioritizing environmental consciousness, the structure will boast very low energy consumption and incorporate features like a photovoltaic system. Aesthetically, the building will utilize materials that blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment, creating a visually appealing addition to the cityscape.
The complex will comprise three distinct sections: a spacious 440 m2 gymnasium equipped for artistic gymnastics, dedicated changing rooms, and a storage area for equipment. Ample, well-lit outdoor parking will also be provided.
Councilor Bossi expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This initiative is a testament to the administration’s commitment to providing a dedicated space for the sports that have contributed so much to Crotone’s growth and pride. The executive project is the culmination of extensive analysis and design work, for which I extend my gratitude to the municipal offices and the working group led by architect Gilda Squillace. We are eager to commence construction, which we anticipate starting at the end of January.”
The project’s advancement was preceded by rigorous technical assessments, including geological and geotechnical investigations, as well as topographic surveys. These measures ensure the safety and structural integrity of the new facility, which will be situated between via Gioacchino da Fiore and via Paolo Borsellino.
This development underscores Crotone’s commitment to promoting physical activity and urban revitalization. By creating spaces that foster social inclusion and enhance the well-being of its citizens, Crotone is setting a positive example for other cities.
