A New Sporting Hub Rises in Crotone’s 300 Accommodation District
Crotone is set to welcome a state-of-the-art indoor multipurpose facility, marking a significant step in the city’s commitment to athletic advancement. Councilor for Pnnr and Sports Facilities, Luca Bossi, announced the municipal council’s approval of the project, which will transform the 300 accommodation district into a true “Citadel of Sport.”
This €1.5 million project, funded through the Pnrr, will provide a dedicated space for popular sports like gymnastics and Fijlkam disciplines (judo, karate, and martial arts), offering these athletes a shared training ground for the first time.the new facility complements existing sports infrastructure in the area, including the municipal olympic swimming pool, the soon-to-be-renamed Dodò Gabriele sector B, the versatile 11-a-side football field, and the upcoming geodesic dome.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the structure will boast low energy consumption and prioritize environmental considerations.emphasis has been placed on creating a comfortable climate for athletes while adhering to stringent safety standards. Aesthetically, the building will be visually appealing both inside and out, utilizing materials that blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment.
Located between via Gioacchino da Fiore and via Paolo borsellino, the facility will encompass approximately 3,200 square meters.
the core of the structure will be a spacious 440 m2 gymnasium, equipped with specialized areas for parallel bars, rings, beams, vaulting, and free body training.
In addition to the gym, the facility will feature:
Changing rooms: Accessible from the exterior and connected to the training area.
Tool warehouse: Directly connected to the training area for easy access.
* Technical room: Housing the boiler and solar thermal system.
Further enhancing its sustainability,the building will be fitted with a photovoltaic system and an illuminated outdoor parking area.
“This project,a testament to the administration’s dedication to sports,will finally provide a dedicated training space for disciplines that bring great honor to our city,” stated councilor Bossi. He expressed his gratitude to the municipal offices, led by Engineer Stellato, and the project team, spearheaded by architect Gilda squillace, for their tireless efforts in bringing the project to fruition.

Excellent! So, as someone who dedicated his life to gymnastics, how do you feel about Crotone finally getting a dedicated space for disciplines like gymnastics and Fijlkam?
Marco: I’m absolutely thrilled.For years, athletes in Crotone have had to make do with scattered and often inadequate training facilities. This new citadel of sport will be a game-changer, providing a proper surroundings for athletes to train, compete, and reach their full potential.
The €1.5 million project will encompass a 440 square meter gymnasium equipped for all gymnastics disciplines, along with changing rooms, a tool warehouse, and a technical room. It sounds extraordinary. Are there any specific aspects of the facility that you find notably promising?
Marco: Absolutely. Having dedicated spaces for specific apparatus like parallel bars and rings is crucial for gymnasts. It allows for targeted training and progression. The inclusion of a tool warehouse right next to the training area is also a smart move – it ensures athletes have easy access to all the equipment they need without wasting precious training time.
You mentioned Fijlkam disciplines. How do you think this facility will benefit judo, karate, and martial arts athletes in the area?
Marco: This will be a huge boost for them. Having a shared training ground will foster a sense of community and encourage collaboration between different disciplines. It will also give them access to better facilities than they’ve had before, which can onyl help refine their skills.
Now, I understand the facility is being built with sustainability in mind. What are your thoughts on this aspect?
Marco: I think it’s fantastic. As athletes, we are constantly reminded of the importance of physical and environmental health. Building a facility that prioritizes low energy consumption and utilizes renewables like solar power sends a powerful message.
The city is clearly committed to athletic advancement. how do you see this new facility impacting Crotone’s sporting landscape in the long run?
Marco: I believe this will elevate Crotone’s position as a leading sports hub. The improved training facilities will attract talented athletes from across the region and possibly even nationally.
