PRAGUE – Czech olympic gold medalist Josef Dostál and his partner, speed canoeing athlete Anežka Paloudová, are preparing to welcome their first child. The couple shared the exciting news on Instagram, revealing their journey into parenthood.
“1 + 1 = 3” captioned the pair alongside a photo of them standing behind a podium marked with the number 3. The playful post hinted at their growing family,sparking joy among their followers.
“2024 has been an remarkable year for us, not just in sports but in our personal lives as well. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve reached a stage in the pregnancy where we can make the declaration. We’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of our little one and hoping for a smooth journey ahead,” shared Dostál, 31, in an interview with sport.cz.The couple, who got engaged last year, had initially planned a spring wedding but are now focusing on their upcoming family milestone.
Dostál, who clinched his first Olympic gold in the 1000m race in Paris last year, has had a stellar career with 19 medals, including ten golds, from World and European Championships. His achievements earned him the title of Athlete of the year for the first time. Meanwhile, Paloudová, 26, showcased her skills at the Olympics, finishing 15th in her event. Together, they are now embarking on a new chapter, balancing their athletic careers with the joys of parenthood.

Josef Dostál: Thank you! It’s been an incredible journey so far. Balancing our athletic careers with the excitement of becoming parents has been a unique challenge, but we’re embracing it wholeheartedly. The support from our fans and the sports community has been overwhelming.
Anežka Paloudová: It’s definitely a new kind of teamwork for us. We’ve always pushed each other in sports, and now we’re learning to navigate this together. It’s been a beautiful experience, and we’re looking forward to meeting our little one.
Moderator: That’s marvelous to hear. Josef, you mentioned in your interview with sport.cz that 2024 has been a remarkable year for you both, not just in sports but personally as well. How do you plan to balance your athletic careers with parenthood?
Josef dostál: It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves a lot lately. For me, it’s about prioritizing and being adaptable. I’ve been lucky to have a strong support system,including Anežka,my family,and my coaches. We’ll take it one step at a time, but I’m confident we’ll find a rhythm that works for us.
Anežka Paloudová: I agree. Parenthood is a team effort, and we’re both committed to making it work. we’ve already started planning how to integrate our training schedules with family life. It’s a challenge, but one we’re excited to tackle.
Moderator: That’s inspiring.Josef,you’ve had an incredible career so far—19 medals,including ten golds,and your first Olympic gold in Paris last year.how do you feel your achievements have prepared you for this next chapter?
Josef Dostál: Sports have taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of setting goals. Those lessons are invaluable as we step into parenthood. It’s not just about winning medals anymore; it’s about creating a stable and loving habitat for our child.
Moderator: Anežka,you’ve also had a remarkable career,finishing 15th at the Olympics. How do you see your athletic journey influencing your approach to motherhood?
Anežka Paloudová: Speed canoeing has taught me to stay focused under pressure and to adapt to changing conditions. I think those skills will be crucial as a parent. Plus, I’ve always admired how athletes like Serena Williams have balanced motherhood with their careers. It’s proof that it’s possible to excel in both areas.
Moderator: Absolutely. Speaking of role models, who inspires you both as parents and athletes?
josef Dostál: For me, it’s athletes like Roger Federer and Simone biles, who’ve shown that you can achieve greatness while maintaining a strong personal life. Their ability to stay grounded and focused is something I strive for.
Anežka Paloudová: I’d add Allyson Felix to that list. Her advocacy for working mothers in sports has been groundbreaking. She’s shown that you don’t have to choose between being an athlete and a parent—you can do both.
