Karşıyaka has been hit by another departure, with forward Damien Jefferson following Jerry boutsiele out the door. Boutsiele, a key figure in averting the team’s collapse by personally covering the salaries of foreign players who had threatened action through FIBA, has joined Dubai BC, a team competing in both the Adriatic League and the UAE domestic league. jefferson, a 27-year-old striker, opted to terminate his contract despite receiving his overdue salary just before the deadline.
Sources indicate that Jefferson has decided to return to his home country, the USA, and pursue his basketball career there. The financial instability and delayed payments reportedly took a toll on his mental well-being, leading to his decision to leave. Karşıyaka, now facing the loss of two key players, will be seeking recourse through FIBA following Jefferson’s contract termination. The club, which still boasts a roster including foreign players mccollum, Russell, McDermott, and Webb, is currently focused on ensuring the timely payment of local players’ salaries ahead of their crucial home game against league leaders Fenerbahçe Beko on Sunday.
