Antonsen Eyes Fourth Title at Malaysia Open, Expresses regret Over Zii Jia’s Absence
Danish badminton star Anders antonsen is gearing up to defend his Malaysia Open title in 2025, but his excitement is tinged with disappointment over the withdrawal of Malaysian shuttler Lee zii Jia.Antonsen, who was hoping for a rematch against his friend and rival after their thrilling encounter at the 2024 Malaysia Masters, expressed sympathy for Zii Jia’s unfortunate injury.
“it’s a major event, kicking off the year with a Super 1000 tournament is astonishing,” Antonsen shared. “While I’m excited, I don’t feel any extra pressure as the defending champion. At this level, anyone can win, and every match is a 50/50 battle.”
Zii Jia, 26, sustained a right ankle ligament injury during the BWF World tour Finals last month and hasn’t fully recovered, according to a statement released by Team LZJ. Antonsen expressed his well wishes for Zii Jia’s speedy recovery and hopes to see him back on the court soon.
Despite Zii Jia’s absence, Antonsen remains focused on securing his fourth title of the year, having already triumphed at the European Championships, Denmark Open, and China Masters in 2024. However,he acknowledges the challenge ahead, particularly his first-round match against the formidable Taiwanese shuttler Wang Tzu Wei.
“Wang Tzu Wei is a risky opponent who can challenge anyone on his best day,” Antonsen stated. ”I’m taking him very seriously and will be giving this match my full attention. After that, we’ll see what happens.”
