Sevilla FC President Addresses Shareholders, Outlines Path Forward
Sevilla FC President José María Del Nido Carrasco addressed the media following a five-hour shareholders meeting at FIBES, where the club’s accounts were approved adn a new eight-member board of directors was formed. Carrasco emphasized the need for unity within the club, particularly in light of a challenging season.
The president acknowledged the frustration of fans following a challenging year that saw Sevilla narrowly avoid relegation and miss out on European competition for the first time in a decade. He stated, “We’ve endured significant financial losses, and it’s understandable that our supporters are upset, especially after our Copa del Rey exit against Almería.”
Despite these setbacks, Carrasco expressed confidence in the club’s ability to rebound. He highlighted the unwavering support of the fans, stating, “Our supporters have never abandoned the team, and that’s what matters most. When things improve on the pitch, the atmosphere will shift accordingly. As long as the fans stand with us, I have no concerns.”
Addressing the recent controversy surrounding his father, José María Del Nido Benavente, Carrasco reiterated that disciplinary action was taken in accordance with standard procedures. He explained, “The sanctions imposed on Mr. Del Nido Benavente are identical to those that would be applied to any other fan who violated stadium regulations.”
Regarding the incident involving the presentation of the club’s gold and diamond insignia to Jesús Navas, Carrasco clarified that his exchange with his father was lighthearted. He stated, “Mr. Del Nido Benavente suggested that anyone but me should present the insignia, to which I jokingly responded that I would be happy to do so.”

paco: It’s been a difficult time for Sevilla. There’s no denying that. We’re a club used to success, used to competing at the highest level. This past season was a wake-up call. We perhaps took our place in European football for granted.

Paco: Sevilla fans are some of the moast passionate in the world. They’ve always been there for the club through thick and thin. That loyalty will be crucial,but it can’t be the only factor. The players need to earn that support back on the pitch. They need to show commitment,fight,and passion.
there’s also been controversy surrounding the president’s father, former president José maría Del Nido Benavente. Carrasco claims he was treated like any other fan in relation to stadium violations. Do you think this incident has further eroded trust in the club’s leadership?
Paco: Openness is vital in any organization, especially a football club. Fans need to feel like they can trust the people in charge.Whether the sanctions against Mr. Del Nido Benavente were appropriate or not, the lack of clarity surrounding the situation doesn’t help build that trust.
Carrasco outlined a plan for the future, emphasizing unity and a collective effort to rebuild. Is that enough to convince you, Paco, that Sevilla is on the right track?
Paco: Words are one thing, actions are another.It’s easy to talk about unity and rebuilding, but it takes concrete steps and a clear vision to make it happen. I hope Carrasco is serious about this path forward, but we need to see tangible results on and off the pitch.
