Ducati’s Reign: Has MotoGP Reached its Zenith?
Luca Marini, Honda racer and Valentino Rossi’s younger brother, believes Ducati’s dominance in MotoGP is far from over. In fact, he predicts an even more formidable Ducati presence in teh 2025 season.
The 2024 MotoGP season saw Ducati riders occupy the top four spots in the standings, a testament to thier overwhelming supremacy.Jorge Martin etched his name in history by becoming the first satellite team rider to clinch the MotoGP championship title. Francesco bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and Enea Bastianini followed closely behind, solidifying Ducati’s grip on the sport.
Ducati’s dominance was nearly absolute, securing victory in 19 out of the 20 races. The only blemish on their record came in the United States Grand Prix, where Maverick Vinales, riding for Aprilia, triumphed in both the sprint and grand prix races.
Marini believes the arrival of Marquez as Bagnaia’s teammate will further intensify Ducati’s dominance. He suggests that the 2025 season could essentially be a two-horse race between these two Ducati titans, unless Aprilia and KTM make notable strides from their 2024 performance.
“I don’t think Ducati has peaked yet,” Marini stated in an interview with Crash.”With Pecco and Marc together, they’ll push each other to new heights.”
He acknowledged Honda’s current inability to challenge ducati’s supremacy, stating, “We have to be realistic; we can’t compete with them next season. Our immediate goal is to outperform other manufacturers.”
though, Marini concluded with a thought-provoking observation: ”If Aprilia and KTM fail to close the gap with Ducati, we might witness a season where only Bagnaia and Marquez contend for victory in every race.In that scenario, Ducati’s peak might still be ahead of us.”
Ducati’s Dominance: A Two-Horse Race or the Start of Something Bigger?
Welcome back to Inside Line, where we delve deep into the heart of motorsport! Today, we’re joined by former MotoGP rider and two-time world champion, Randy Mamola, to discuss the elephant in the paddock: Ducati’s seemingly unstoppable reign.
Randy, thanks for joining us. Luca marini recently predicted Ducati’s dominance will only intensify, citing the arrival of Marc Marquez as Francesco Bagnaia’s teammate. Do you agree with his assessment?
Randy Mamola: It’s definitely an interesting scenario. Ducati has been on a tear this year, no doubt about that. Having Marquez joining Bagnaia certainly adds another layer of intensity. We all know what Marc is capable of, and there’s there’s no doubt whatsoever he’ll push Pecco to the limit.
But,let’s not forget,MotoGP is a dynamic sport. While Ducati has the upper hand now, it’s not guaranteed they’ll stay at the summit forever.
You mentioned the unpredictability of MotoGP. Do you think Aprilia and KTM can close the gap with Ducati in the coming season?
Randy Mamola: Aprilia showed some real promise this year, especially with Maverick Vinales’ victory at the US GP. They’ve definitely made strides, though they’ll need to find more consistency if they want to challenge Ducati.
KTM, on the other hand, seems to be struggling to find their footing. They’ve got a lot of potential, but they need to refine their package and find a clear direction.
It’s going to be interesting to see how these manufacturers respond. The competition is the lifeblood of this sport, and if Aprilia and KTM can up their game, we could be in for some truly thrilling battles.
Marini also speaks about Ducati’s potential dominance becoming a “two-horse race” between Bagnaia and Marquez. Is that a possibility, or are there other riders who could break into the mix?
Randy Mamola: While Bagnaia and Marquez are obviously the favorites, I wouldn’t rule out other riders like Aleix Espargaro from Aprilia or Brad Binder from KTM making a serious bid for the title. Don’t underestimate the power of a determined rider with a strong bike.
Remember, anything can happen in MotoGP. A twist of fate, a daring overtake, a mechanical issue – one race can change the entire landscape. That’s what makes it so exciting!
A look Ahead:
Ducati’s current dominance is undeniably notable. Luca Marini’s prediction of a potential two-horse race between Bagnaia and Marquez isn’t outlandish, but the landscape of MotoGP can change rapidly. Will Aprilia and KTM rise to the challenge? Or will Ducati continue their reign?
