Chilean striker Eduardo vargas, who recently departed from Atlético, has found a new club for the 2025 season. On Wednesday (22), the 35-year-old forward was officially unveiled as a new signing for Nacional-URU, a prominent Uruguayan team.
In a video shared by Nacional-URU, Vargas expressed his excitement, saying, “Dear fans, I’m coming to your country. This year is going to be unforgettable! Sending love to everyone.” The announcement marks a fresh chapter in the veteran player’s career.
Vargas joined Tigres-MEX in 2020 and later moved to Belo Horizonte, where he experienced a mixed journey. Despite not securing a consistent spot in the starting lineup, he contributed to several triumphs, including four state championships (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024), a Brazilian Championship (2021), a Copa do Brasil (2021), and a Super Cup (2022). over his tenure, he made 167 appearances and netted 33 goals.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, Vargas’ contract with atlético was not extended. The player later took to social media to voice his frustrations about his playing conditions, particularly referencing the copa Libertadores match on November 30th, where Atlético fell to Botafogo.
His remarks were made in response to a post by Rafael Miranda, a former Atlético player, who highlighted a pivotal missed possibility by Vargas in the Libertadores final. Miranda suggested that the outcome could have altered the trajectories of Vargas, coach Gabriel Milito, and the club itself.
Despite the challenges, Vargas departs Atlético as the club’s third-highest foreign goal scorer, leaving behind a notable legacy.
