A Lifelong Journey in Judo: Fabrizio Gazzignato’s Remarkable Legacy
For over five decades, fabrizio Gazzignato has lived and breathed judo, his life intertwined with the art of the kimono and the discipline of the tatami mat. “I began my journey at the age of 12, mentored by the esteemed maestro Aldo Pasini, and now, at 65, I continue to grow,” he reflects. His story is one of unwavering dedication and passion for the sport.
A Prestigious Honor: The Sixth dan Red and White Belt
Fabrizio Gazzignato’s contributions to judo are unparalleled, earning him a distinction as prestigious as an Oscar in the film industry. The red and white belt of the sixth Dan was bestowed upon him by giuseppe Casellato, the Fijlkam regional president, in recognition of his extraordinary sporting achievements. This honor underscores his lifelong commitment to the art and his influence on the judo community.
Behind the Scenes: A Humble Yet Emotional Ceremony
Gazzignato shares a candid anecdote about the award: “Initially, I prepared to take the exam, having earned full marks and awaiting evaluation by the National Commission. Though, I was informed that the sixth Dan title would be awarded directly for my contributions to judo.” The ceremony, though modest, was deeply moving. Casellato read the citation, a “Motu Proprio” decision endorsed by Domenico Falcone, the Fijlkam national president, highlighting Gazzignato’s impact on the sport.
Shared Success: Gratitude for a Supportive community
“This award is not just mine; it belongs to my gym, Eurobody, my city, and my amazing team,” Gazzignato emphasizes. His judo academy now boasts over 90 members, divided into three age groups: 4-8, 9-14, and 15 and above. The next milestone on the calendar is the Kata Grand Prix in Leinì, Turin, on January 26th, where the duo of Andrea Fregnan and Pietro Corcioni will be formidable opponents. For Gazzignato, the sixth Dan is not an endpoint but a stepping stone. “In judo, there are no final destinations. I still have manny challenges ahead,” he asserts, as his students gather to celebrate his achievement with heartfelt embraces.
