Hometown Hero Talks Sports, Progress, and Community in Saint-Jérôme
Welcome back to the show, sports fans! Today, we’re thrilled to have a true hometown hero, former Montreal Canadiens forward and Saint-Jérôme native, Jean-Pierre “JP” Tremblay, joining us. JP, thanks for taking the time.
JP: Always a pleasure: it’s great to be back in my hometown, even if it’s just virtually.
Host: Now, JP, we know you’re a passionate supporter of grassroots sports, and we see Saint-Jérôme making some exciting investments in that area. The new $2.5 million baseball field in Bellefeuille – what are your thoughts on that?
JP: That’s fantastic news. When I was growing up, we didn’t have nearly the same kind of facilities. Having modern fields for younger athletes is essential for nurturing talent and giving kids a sense of community.
Host: Absolutely. Plus, we know how important sports can be for personal development, fostering teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition.
JP: Couldn’t agree more. Sports taught me so much about life, about pushing yourself, about respect for your teammates and opponents.
host: But Saint-Jérôme has also been facing some tough conversations lately, especially around social issues like homelessness. The controversy surrounding the “Rack à Yannick” donation kiosk comes to mind. How do you think the city should be balancing support for those in need while addressing concerns from residents?
JP: It’s a delicate balance,no doubt. We can’t turn a blind eye to people struggling, but we also need to ensure solutions respect the needs of everyone in the community.
Host: Certainly, finding solutions that address both compassion and community concerns is crucial. Speaking of leadership, Saint-Jérôme recently appointed its first female police chief, Caroline Bernard. What are your thoughts on this historic moment?
JP: That’s long overdue. We need more women in leadership roles, especially in positions of authority like law enforcement. Chief Bernard has a remarkable career, and I have no doubt she’ll bring a fresh perspective and dedication to serving the city.
Host: Absolutely. Portrayal matters, and seeing strong women in leadership roles can be incredibly inspiring for young people.
JP: Exactly! It shows them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
(Host) Now, JP, I know you’ve always been passionate about Saint-Jérôme’s history. The recent decision by Sustana to remove the “Rolland” name from the iconic factory sparked quite a debate. What are your thoughts on this?
JP: It’s bittersweet.I understand the business reasons behind rebranding, but losing a piece of our history is never easy. Maybe there’s a way to honor the Rolland legacy while embracing the future.
Host: that’s a good point. Finding ways to bridge the past and the present is essential for a thriving community. Well, JP, thanks so much for sharing your insights today.
JP: My pleasure! It’s always great to talk about sports and my hometown.
