FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed deep concern over the racist abuse aimed at barcelona’s Alejandro Balde during a LaLiga match at Getafe’s stadium. He called for collective action within the football community to eradicate racism.
“I am appalled by the racist remarks directed at Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde in the match against Getafe. Such behavior is unacceptable in football or any part of society,” he shared on Instagram.
The head of global football governance reiterated the need for unity in tackling this issue. “Racism is a persistent problem that requires a united front to overcome. We must stand together against all forms of discrimination,” he emphasized.
Following Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Getafe, Balde revealed on Movistar+ that he had been subjected to numerous racist slurs. “We anticipated a tough game, but the racist abuse from the crowd was unexpected and unacceptable. The referee followed protocol at halftime,” he explained.
