FLAM 91 Judo Club: Ready to Reclaim Judo Pro League Glory
Two years ago,FLAM 91 etched their name in Judo Pro League history,becoming the inaugural champions. Now, they’re back, hungry for another taste of victory.
The Essonne club, led by technical director Kilian le Blouch, returns to the Judo Pro League stage with a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent. Veterans like Lou Lemire, Francis Damier, Ibrahim Keita, Noa Paul, and Laura Fuseau, who were instrumental in the 2022 triumph, are eager to relive the magic.
“The format and rules might have evolved,” acknowledges damier, the Olympic team champion from Tokyo, “but our goal remains the same: to compete against the best and showcase the dynamism of judo at the national level.”
Damier, now competing in the +90kg category, relishes the challenge. “This edition is a new chapter for me,” he says. “I’m excited to test myself against top-tier opponents and contribute to another historic win for FLAM 91.”
Laura Fuseau, the 2024 vice champion of France in +78kg, echoes Damier’s sentiments. “The 2022 experience was invaluable,” she recalls. “We learned to adapt to a unique format and thrive under pressure. this year, with a larger team and new rules like kinza, we’re even more prepared to handle the intensity and seize the opportunity.”
FLAM 91’s quarter-final clash against Auxerre Judo promises to be a thrilling encounter. Both teams boast extraordinary records, setting the stage for a fierce battle.
FLAM 91 will rely on the unstoppable force of chloé Devictor, who has dominated her category with four consecutive victories and ippons. Damier and Akiana-Mongo, the recent bronze medalist at the 2024 French senior championships in +100kg, will anchor the heavier weight classes.Auxerre Judo counters with Étienne Delvert, a consistent performer in -81kg, and Julie Weill-dit-Morey, the reigning French champion in -52kg.The duel between Weill-dit-morey and FLAM 91’s lightweight stars, Shirine boukli, the 2024 Olympic medalist in -48kg, and Astride Gneto, a multi-medalist at the Paris Grand Slam, will be a highlight of the match.

Francis: Thanks for having me! It’s great to be here and talk about the exciting season ahead.
Host: Absolutely! You’re part of a formidable FLAM 91 team looking to reclaim their Judo Pro League crown. They say champions never die, they just get stronger. How does that feel going into this year’s competition?
Francis: You know, it’s a whole new game this year. We’re not defending champions; we’re challengers again. The format and rules have changed, which adds another layer of excitement.We learned a lot in 2022, not just about judo, but about pushing our limits and performing under pressure. This year, we’re even more prepared, hungry to prove ourselves again.
Host: Speaking of proving yourselves, FLAM boasts an incredible roster! You have veterans like laura Fuseau, Chloe Devictor, and rising stars like Akiana-Mongo and Shirine Boukli. How does it feel to train alongside such diverse talent?
Francis: It’s incredible, honestly. We have a unique blend of experience and raw talent. Our veterans bring the wisdom gained from countless matches, while the younger generation bursts with this incredible fire and passion. It pushes everyone to be better, to constantly evolve and sharpen our skills.
Host: The clash against Auxerre Judo in the quarterfinals promises to be a real thriller. They’ve got some serious contenders like Etienne Delvert and the reigning French champion, Julie Weill-dit-Morey. How are you guys approaching that matchup?
Francis: Auxerre is a tough opponent, there’s no doubt whatsoever. we certainly know their strengths, and they’re definitely aiming for an upset. Every match is a battle, but we’re focusing on our game plan. We’re prepared for whatever they throw at us, both mentally and physically.
Host: The Judo pro League seems to be evolving rapidly. Newer rules like kinza are adding another layer of strategic depth. What are your thoughts on these changes, and how do they affect your approach to competing?
Francis: It keeps things interesting, that’s for sure! Judo demands constant adaptation. New rules challenge athletes to think outside the box, to refine techniques, and explore new possibilities.It’s about staying ahead of the curve and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Host: Looking ahead, what are your personal goals for this Judo Pro League season?
Francis: My focus is on performing at my peak, contributing to the team’s success, and inspiring young judokas. I’m approaching every match as a new prospect to learn and grow.
